Microsoft to Pull Complete Reversal on Xbox One DRM Policies

Who would have thought there was logic in listening to the gamers?

Oh wait its a console played by gamers, this might be a little to late.

MS would need to now get something on Sony

Like what? Build a coffee maker accessory? Or give it the means to perform sexual favours for its owner?

The Xbox One Just Got Way Worse, And It's Our Fault - Gizmodo

The crux of the article without the backstory:

Can that idiot climb out of MS ass long enough to listen to the actual gaming community.

Seriously WoW as his example (not much point playing a MMO alone). Imagine Remember me, a pure single player game with DRM, that's what the Xbone wanted not DRM for a pure MP experience but total blanket DRM.

hahaha, i dont know they get paid millions they can work it out. The point is MS has dug a serious hole for themselves and they need to do something that isnt just copying Sony to make up for the Chernobyl sized blunder

I never got the issue with the internet connection. Seems like a non-issue to me as I've got internet 24/7. The used games was irritating though, as I resent being told that something I purchased isn't mine to do with as I see fit.

I'm exactly the opposite, I don't bother with used games at all, but internet in this country is really unreliable so that 24 hour check bothered me.

Looks like MS might be back in the fight, but I'm still going with the PS4.

Then ur phone line goes down and the nearest 3g tower gets struck by lightning and now u stranded cause ur console cant phone home. Its a stupid feature to exact more control on its users, there is no real benefit to it

Good news, but I still won't buy one at launch. It will most likely still end up costing about R1000 - R1500 more than the PS4 when it launches and some of the other things still bother me, e.g. Kinect being mandatory. Although not that big of a deal the one time connection when you buy the console will still be a problem for some, I know of many, many (X360) gamers who don't have any form of internet connection. At least there will (hopefully) be ways around this like taking your console to a friend's house to activate it, but I still think a lot of people won't get one because of that. If it stays like this and MS don't do another 180 somewhere in the console's life-cycle, I'll probably get one later when the priced has dropped (a lot) to play Forza, Dead Rising 3 and any other exclusives that I am/will be interested in.

And this is the thread where all the XBOX fanboys will go rampant :D

I think even the xbox fanbois looked at MS and asked wtf are they doin.

Iv never owned a playstation and before this debacle didnt think i would, but after this maelstrom im seriously considering it

I hope there are more wise men like you out there :)

hahaha

The funny thing is the medium i play on doesnt really matter anymore, it must just deliver as promised. Same goes for the usual wars of intel/amd and nvidia/amd. The games must just look awesome and play well end of story

I play 3/4 of my games on a console.

so i'm not that big about having the best graphics there is :)

But going from PS2 with OLD tube TV to PS3 on Old TV to PS3 on LCD TV each time i noticed a big improvement.

So i bet there will be another improvement when going to ps4 or XBone - the systems are nearly identical so there should not be a big difference.

But to get back to the topic......
this is a good start for MS to try and get back some support.

Doesn't affect my decision, just like the previous announcements didn't affect my decision on which console I'm going with.
Like someone said earlier the only problem might have been the always online feature because of the state of SA's internet.
I buy my games new and haven't sold any, I think personally that the way a lot of people get a new game and rush through it as quickly as possible just to get a good selling price so they can use that as a down payment on another game and do it all again defeats what I think the purpose of gaming is.
Also agree that there is some bad mixed in with the good for people getting their way:
Some of the removed features would possibly have had very positive affects down the line. I liked the idea of the sharing circle to be honest and the DRM could have brought prices down because at the moment income lost to piracy is passed onto the legit consumers in order to keep the industry alive.
That is my opinion, those who don't agree (and I know there are a lot) are entitled to their's as well.

Really, when was the last time you had 24 hours without a connection? I have maybe experienced 2 days like that in 6 years of being on ADSL when there were massive cable breaks, and even then I'm not sure if it lasted a full 24 hours with zero connection. And if it was to happen I can assure you I'd have greater concerns than my XBOX borking out. It seems like a very narrow subset of potential users (i.e. those who live in 3rd world countries and can't afford a reliable internet connection - which let's face it, then you can't afford an XBOX One either) are getting upset over this one. The used game thing is much more onerous.

But... a counterpoint - and quite a valid one in my view:

Victory to the horde!

I want warcraft 4 now!

Look I had a PS1, buddy had a PS2, then my bro (after playing at a mates) bought a 360 and then I eventually got one (he had a fat one) and I have to say the achievements were addictive and I have never regretted getting a 360.

So I would first off support the 360 - if the PS4 is the clear winner - after the release and the xbox is still lagging behind I will consider switching.
