Im checking out the Gamers gat specials and shaking my head. Where do they find this stuff.
Fritz chess
My Boyfriend
my sim aquerium
Doggie daycare
show jumper
Katy and bob.

Who's making this stuff, and who's buying it. This is the kind of thing you expect with a new computer at Trade center, along with mavis beacon and an russian encyclopaedia. I mean last weak it was a farming simulator.

Shovelware rubbish. Probably bought by clueless grandparents for clueless grandchildren.

Shovelware- lol, I've never heard that before.

If I had friends on GG I'd buy this as a gift. Reminds me of this dude on Reddit who sent all his (male) friends that Sparkly Pony game as gifts...once you accept it you can't remove it & its in your library forever. :D

lmao - now that is funny. :D

How in the world can you have one of the world's best and most popular chess programs on that list? Sheesh, when Fritz 13 was released I pre-ordered it from Kalahari.

As for the other games, hardcore gamers seem to forget that there are children out there and that there are people with a more casual taste in gaming. What makes Gamers Gate special is that it's a lot easier for an indie developer to have their games accepted and sold at Gamers Gate than at many of the other online retailers.

This weekend I'm going to find an article that I read about Farming Simulator that will blow your mind. If a developer can find a niche market that people are passionate about then that developer is making a living doing something that he loves.

Just because something doesn't appeal to you, doesn't mean that it doesn't appeal to someone else.

For instance, look at Big Fish Games. Their hidden object games make millions of dollars.

These games aren't shovelware. That's discriminatory in my eyes. It's niche games. It's not AAA games that all follow the same gameplay elements because they are too afraid to experiment. If AAA games are too far from the norm then they lose a lot of their shee... I mean players.

Indie developers should be commended for making games for niche markets, using niche ideas.

Okay but I'm late for work. Got to go shower. Will post more, with links to articles about who make and play these games sometime over the weekend.

I would be interested to read more about the devs behind these games (except for chess).
Behind the scene: "making of doggie day care" could be entertaining. :p

I was about to grab that Fritz for $2, but then I thought, I should rather save up for the newest version. Can't wait to get back into chess!

My dad probably owns more hidden object games than AAA games I have on Steam.

Don't talk rubbish about Fritz. :)

It's a brilliant chess engine and people have used it for years to improve their chess skills.

Indeed, but this version is 7 years old!

I never really had Fritz though, I used Chess Assistant. Wouldn't mind on getting Rybka:D but that might be overkill. Maybe I should just get Fritz 13 and start playing again!

That quote makes my Jaw drop- seriously.

Hehe well that's good to know. :) Those niche markets sell tons of games. I reckon if you are an indie developer now then try and go for a nice market. It may take a while to build a fan base but that base will grow and so will your sales.

There's one guy that makes a ton of money by making old school roleplaying games. Crappy graphics and everything. But he's got such a huge following: http://www.spiderwebsoftware.com/

But yeah those simulator games are just amazing. I was so surprised when I saw how those things sell.

And it's not like those games are cheap- you know like angry birds- Oh that sold 20 million copies, but at 99c. Farming simulator is like $30!
