Entry-level graphics cards: SA price roundup

The Gt210 Is a waist of time >< only reason i would ever buy one is for a PC with no Display port on board.

Only gfx card worth your money in the round up is the HD7770. The rest is entry level rubbish and only expect to use it as a media pc to stream movies etc.

With AMD's A series you don't need a GPU anymore. Would go with a HD7770/90 for entry mid level gaming, or simply for someone that mostly plays Free to play games - they are not as graphically intensive as most big budget titles.

I've still got the HD 6870 I won from MyGaming two years back and I can't recommend it enough for a mid-range card. I can still play most new games on high and I suspect if I had a better CPU I'd easily be able to play most of them on a mixture of high to highest, if I wouldn't be able to simply max them out anyway.

That's quite a big jump with the HD7770. I would have classified that as a mid-range card at that price point.

While in it's essence it is, I would classify it as a entry level card for a serious gamer on a budget. Switch down to 1600x900, 1440x900, 1366x768 or even a 720p TV (1280x720) screen and you have a winner.

Sure at 720p you'll loose some finer detail but if you playing in on a 32" LCD it will look awesome!

Cool. Whereas the other cards are just entry level cards for noobs then?

They more of if you need a GPU for extremely light gaming or just need one for output to HDMI or a cheap multi screen setup for a GUI. While the HD6450 scores horribly in most of the games they tested, (http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_6450_Passive/31.html) I believe if one played with the settings or chose to play less intensive or older games you could get a few extra frames out of it. Making it a acceptable entry level card.

Currently rocking a 7790. Looking to upgrade asap though; this card just can't keep up in Tomb Raider :/

Yeah, the HD6870 is a great card. After all of AMD's driver updates, it finally equals the HD5870 and the HD7790 is the card that essentially replaces it because it has the same performance but uses half the power. I need to find a 2GB version, though, my 1GB just gets chewed up by Crysis 3.

I've never been sure which version I have. I think it's the 1GB, but it also claims to have almost 2GB shared memory, so I'm not sure which number to go on. :P

I must say i have the GT210 in my pc at home and it battles to run magica and mafia 2.

But i mainly use my pc as a media center as the card contains a HDMI port :)

but i must say it runs lol, dota2, SC2 and a couple of other games :) it just depends on the game i guess.

Nvidia not getting much love.
The GT210 is rather old, isn't the GT630 worth a mention?

The GT630, 2GB edition can handle multiple monitors @ 1920x1080 (for work, not gaming).
If you get the 128bit version, it is also good enough to game at 1366x768 :)

The "dedicated memory" is how much your card has.
The "shared system memory" is coming from your RAM. :)

I would only seriously consider such a thing when they can put a built-in 7950 or something like that into the cpu.
Until then I'm quite happy with my GTX570 Sli setup :D
