Steam Trading Cards

People, if you have already crafted a summer sale badge, and is not a badge nut, hold onto your cards.
The market price of summer sale cards are rocketing*.
A few more days**, you can make quite a buck with your left overs :)

* as of current trend from 21 July 2013 to 22 July 2013.
**unable to predict how many days until the rise stops and the decline begins. Use own judgement

I bought 4 Steam Summer Getaway Foil trading cards for around 1.5 USD each. I'm hoping that's it's a small gaming investment.

Today already they have doubled in value and are all selling for minimum 3 USD. Hopefully in a year or two they will be worth much more since collectors and badge hunters will become more but the cards will become less as they are used.

Unfortunately I didn't get a Skyrim one. I see they are already going for over 5 USD and are also the most rare it looks like.

Very interesting that Valve has created this economy around virtual items - all the while taking a cut from the sales. I'd call it a scam if people weren't so willing to participate. You need the speculators looking to fill their Steam Wallet, and you need the buyers who for some reason covet a virtual item that serves no purpose - it's not even a tangible thing to hold or a cosmetic item for an in-game character. It just sits in your Steam inventory being pointless.

And so another Indian wizz kid can support his family :)

Personally I enjoy it more as a personal meta game between me and my friends on steam. Its also pretty fun to play the bidding game, trying to sell an extra card at the right price and time so that you can buy that one card none of your friends have.

Sounds like the Diablo III RMAH....

I'm just selling all the trading cards I get.

Thanks to the Community market I was able to buy Just Cause 2 with the money I had made off a card or two and some TF2 crates. I decided to go for the Steam Sale badge though rather than sell the cards, I've at least got one Skyirm card that I'm going to hang on to and hopefully get a decent price for it one day.
