Why do you pirate games?

I was waiting for this article. I think it's quite interesting to see the reasons, rather than just the numbers.

I'm no mathematician, but those numbers are confusing.
If the survey is multi-choice, shouldn't the category be singular and a combination of choices?

For example, choices are x,y and z
Shouldn't the result display as:
1. x - percentage
2. y - percentage
3. z - "
4. x&y
5. x&z
6. y&z
7. x&y&z

Resulting in a total of 100%?

No, you can choose more than one option. Or alternative way of looking at it is for each choice you can answer yes or no.

dude, you sound exactly like a mathematician of the highest order!:D

I pirate games that I really want to play - especially if games I already own have been finished at least twice.
And since I don't have a job - my rule is:

Pirate now.
Buy it later.

I'm not a fan of pirating 'cause I feel like I'm stealing money out of the parties involved in the making and production of the game's pockets.

When I have a job eventually, my pirating days are more than likely done.

I agree with this.. if i would pirate a game ( not saying i do "whistling: ) i would get something i can't afford at this present and then buy the real product when i can to play it online or with friends..

One of the games I pirated (Gothic) wasn't available in walk in shops in South Africa. My brother showed it to me, I ended up loving the game and eventually when the Gothic Universe came out and rushed out to buy it so for me it also depends on stock availability

depends on the game really , I buy AAA titles and even some obscure ones .
Or even games I have to wait to come here to SA , if its worth the time after I have tried it I buy it , but some Thank god I didnt waste my cash on , and there have been many stinkers of late

I don't pirate anymore, but I would consider pirating if I am unable to get the game in my region or if there are unreasonable limitations (EG: Insane DRM or crazy regional launch delays etc).

I don't pirate games, I rather just buy them and then resell them when I am finished with it. (Xbox)

28% is actually lower than I would have thought with regard to game pirating.

Yeah that is also a large strategy of my own personal anti-piracy efforts. I buy lots of games second-hand and I buy lots of 4-packs or on big specials (66-75%). I very rarely purchase anything on launch or for the normal retail price.

I rarely pirate games, more of a software pirate (these are usually things like recording software or video editing software)

I maybe pirate a game every 5months or,software maybe every 3 months.

There is rarely a game on the market that i really want so i either buy it if i really want it or pirate it if it looks close to something i want.

This ties in to a similar thread here on the forum. I don't pirate games that much any more. I find it way to easy to just buy it and ensure that I have top quality through services like Steam or Origin. And the games I absolutely must have, I usually get the pre-orders for the bonus content they provide. I like to get the limited editions of my favourite games

Yeah, my pirating days are pretty much behind me. I've managed to buy most of the games I pirated from my younger days like Max Payne 1 + 2, Quake, Unreal, etc.

I still have pirate copies here somewhere like Freelancer (which I couldn't buy anywhere) and then there are some very old games like Star Control 3 and Larry 7 which I don't intend to buy (the developers don't even exist anymore). I also have some things like Police Quest, Larry and Space Quest in a folder on one of my hard drives, somewhere on my pc but I never play them anyway.

The closest I come to game piracy these days is to look for cracks to remove the DVD check for games I bought or to disable Games for Windows Live (in the case of Fallout 3).
