The instructions on the a battery packaging states to not mix batteries [as if to say], if you're going to use batteries - only use 2 of the same batteries. The inside of the controller's battery pack states to only use the AA (LR6 type) batteries [Duracell and Energiser]. So I assume that using 2 AA LR6 type (even though they're of a different manufacturer) should still work fine.

It's not like throwing Diesel in a vehicle that takes Petrol only.

I think you'll be fine. They probably mean don't mix alkaline and Nickel-Mephisto_Helix (Ni-MH) .
