Graphics Cards Debate

My lappy runs the brother of that, 630M 2Gb version. It's great for displaying multiple screens and playing HD movies.
However, if you want to play games, you'll have to settle for 1280x720 res.

My pc at home currently has a GT210 in so i'm not worried about low graphics or resolution, currently i can play chivalry, SC2, Dota2 and a couple of other games but was looking for a cheap upgrade that will not require me to update anything else in my box.

I use a sapphire radeon hd 7970 3gb 384 bit and it workd very well...
The fans can be adjusted to make it super quite and it can run your games in full hd without issues...
If radeon discounts are coming to SA aswell, then i recomend it (otherwise fork out R6000)

Whose asking for a 7970? Other than me two months ago...:D

Anyway the 630 is good but you could get a better value for money with AMD.

Hi Glordit, those are outside of my scope... the GT630 is R579.

7750 --- R1,278.00 -- wootware

more than double the difference in price and the power requirement is more as well.

How do you feel about buying second hand graphics cards?

If you look around, you can probably get a AMD 6770 for around R600.
The 6770 will knock the socks off the GT630 when it comes to gaming.

I have no problem with second hand cards as long as they have not been used to death.

With a very low buget for a GPU like that I would go second hand or APU. If you already have a system definitely go 2nd hand, not worth the R500 for a 630.

Rather get a 5770 or a 5850, I am sure you can still find quite a few of those lying around Carbonite. As far as I remember the 6770 wasn't as valuable as a 5770, considering you can get a 5770 for cheaper because of it being 2 gen old.

That true for the 5850.
I was considering about the warranty part.
Since most cards, except EVGA, comes with 1-3 years warranty, a 5770/5850 would be out of warranty by now :o

I have/had a 5770 and it has a 3 year warranty, it is getting replaced as we speak :)

I still have my 5770, I want to get a new card soon but never can save up the dosh for it, especially now with my stuff getting stolen and insurance not covering it.

I have changed my original plan and am getting a PNY GTX 780...unless someone physically stops me :D

As much as I love Nvidia; the 780 isnt that much of an improvement over the 7970 to justify such a R2000 price bump. However if you are able to hustle it for lower than get it good sir and enjoy :)
