CS:GO to get item drops similar to DOTA 2 & TF2

Counter-Strike Redditors digging through Steam data ahead of Global Offensive’s next update have uncovered references to crates, keys and over 50 weapon skins - just a day after Valve promised a “new way for the community to help build up prize pools at competitive CS:GO events”.

The found schema contain images of a Valve crate and an eSports crate, as well as the keys likely used to open them. Players familiar with either Team Fortress 2 or Dota 2 will know that crate drops form their backbone of their free-to-play systems - though at this point it’s important to stress that we do not know whether Valve have similar plans for a complete free-to-play business model for CS:GO, which has been on sale for less than a year.

The contents of the crates appear to be cosmetic weapon skins, with listings like these:

"econ/default_generated/weapon_m4a1_hy_desert_heavy"

Items will each be assigned a specific rarity, it seems - somewhere between Common, Uncommon, Rare, Mythical, Legendary, Ancient, Immortal and Unusual.

Perhaps it will also go Free to play. If it does it's a sad day for me again indeed. I bought the game paying full price and I get a "proof of purchase" item for my monies worth.

At least I bought it on special I guess. It'll be interesting to see what happens, the hats and wacky customisations fitted in with the feel of TF2 - it'll have to be more "gritty and realistic" to fit in with CS.

The "hats" for CS:GO will be custom knives and some emotes for kill shots.

This will attract more virtual item farmers.
A business oriented move is to make it non-F2P yet until they rake enough monies in with people looking to farm.
Then once many people are on board, they can make it F2P and thrive on transaction fees

Return of the M4A1 and USP pistol with silencers
Portion of the e-sports case will be used to fund CS:GO events

Sort by latency/ping and you will see a few at the top.

I love playing on Jailbreak maps; it's really random though.

I always play on local servers on cs:go and they always work fine for me.. never struggle to find one..

Yes there are. The SA community is quite active as well. Never been on without being able to find a match to join.
Just go to "browse community servers" instead of public matchmaking and sort by ping.

nothing is wrong with F2P but I'm sure the people who bought it wont be very happy that the game they paid for is now free for everyone... at least I got it for like 50% off in the sale and if it goes F2P then the servers will be flooded with More people although I wouldn't mind some new noobs to pwn

TF2 used to be fun but after it went F2P there were just too many guns it became too unbalanced for my liking.
