Hey guys,

So my earphones broke the other day and i want another pair. I've been looking around and there are so many different brands and styles now that im a bit lost. I'm also a bit of an audiophile, so sound quality and even volume distribution between phone phones is a big thing for me.

Reason for the thread being id like some feedback from anyone who uses headphones of different brands and styles with regards to comfort and quality as opposed to price.

Ive used skullcandy before and wasnt impressed. Im not buying beats either. Im more of a Sennheiser fan but again, they are costly as hell. So any feedback would be awesome :D

Thanks guys

Hi panthis,

Are you looking for earphones or headphones?

What's your budget? Are they used for gaming and/or listening to music? Will they be plugged into an amp or straight into your PC/phone?

hey bud, sorry i was meant to put all that info down. budget up to about R500.
only for music off my phone or Macbook while at work

I had the 202s as well. They're nice headphones and have the Sennheiser comfort. If you're able to spend a little bit more than R500, you can check out the Sennheiser HD 419s for R599. Audiowarehouse also has the 202s for R399.

Those are slightly over his price range...
But as most people already know you can rarely go wrong with sennheiser headphones...

The previous comment already said it is out of his range but the little extra cash will go a long way in terms of audio quality.

the more you spend the better it will always become...
unless you are dealing with some greedy as **** company

With Sennheiser, the former is the truth. Their headphones are of exceptional quality and I can vouch for them as I have used many of them over the years.

The 202s are great and were one of my first Sennheiser headphones. I've used the 419s but for the 202s, the sound signature was primarily boosted treble and bass with slightly recessed midrange, giving off that smiley face frequency response. That's why they're DJ headphones.

Overall, it's up to you. They differ from person to person and your hearing response is different to others. In terms of comfort, build quality and audio quality, you cannot go wrong with Sennheiser.

If someone had a lot of money for headphones the studio seinheisers are amazing...

I have personally spent hours using them and after that time you can really appriciate their exelent sound quality and comfort

You can also check out the Beyerdynamic DTX 710 for R515.

Great comfort as well and being 32 ohms, your phone can power them with ease. Anything over that and it'll be lacking quality. As they're open-eared, there will be internal and external bleed but I find it isn't bad enough that I cannot hear.

Also, give the AKG K44 a look at R495. Also 32 ohms, but they're a closed design like the HD 202s and the 419s. Primarily used in music production, the response is very linear so if you'll be listening to a wide variety of music, you should consider these.

We have 2 sets of AKG 44's at work. I love them since they are super loud and clear, but they feel a bit plasticy for my liking. Never the less they are extremely robust and can take a lot of droppings and tossings before they give in and their audio quality is amazing for it's price.

I would highly recommend those HD 419's I had a pair of 437's before the foam petrified on them 4 years later.

root is right, they aren't that expensive, relatively speaking.

And back on topic, I would go for the 202s or (if you can find R100 extra - promise it'll be worth it), go for the 419s. I've still got a pair of 202s lurking around, and they're still just as great 5 years later. I haven't played around with the AKG K44s, but the reviews on those also look good!
