Battlefield 3 PC discussion thread MK II

Hey guys, I just got the game in the Humble Bundle. Do most of the servers run without any DLC (just the base game), or will I need to buy some before I can join most of the servers?

Probably a noob question... :p

Most servers run a combination, but from day 1 experience I can assure you that most gameplay happens on the vanilla maps, especially Metro, Kharg Island and Noshar Channel.

As you can see there are games up :)

Ok, I also got BF3 (and Dead Space 3) through Humble Bundle... and Origin SUCKS. I think in total I downloaded Dead Space 3 about 2.5 times. First time the download failed at 85% and then it restarted. Rest of the times it failed around 90-something percent and then restarted at 89%. I really really hate Origin.

Anyway, I finally got DS3 and BF3 downloaded and installed so I thought I'd open up BF3 just to see what it looks like, but when I run BF3 from Origin, my internet browser opens and attempts to install a plugin.
Is this how I'm supposed to launch BF3? From the browser?

Yes, Battlefield 3 (and BF4 in the future) use Battlelog, which is EA's server browser/stat viewer/friend list. It requires a plugin for your explorer (be it IE, FF or Chrome) in order to work correctly.

It has an absolute plethora of functionality. Originally, most gamers were against it, but I think most of either learnt to live with it, or realised how powerful it is.

I find it funny how i am the only one not having problems with Origin.

Downloaded all BF3 DLC updates when i still played BF3,Downloaded DS3 on my brothers account and will later download the new SimCity as soon as i buy a new HD and move some stuff over.

Not one download failed so far or started over.

Is ek die enigste een wat deesdae hitreg issues in game het. Dood nadat ek om draai/container gehardloop het ens?

Only noticed it after i started playing BF3 again after playing other games, the problem is your playstyle.

When 2 players come across BF3 in close-medium range it's kill or be killed. The one who has the best aim, cover and position usually wins.

Oh, and also while I was busy playing, sometimes I notice Origin just disappears... I have multiple monitors so I've got the download open on the other monitor while playing. Alt+Tab to investigate and it seems that Origin just crashed without any warning / errors and then Origin has to be restarted as well.

I downloaded Dragon Age 2 via Origin about 2/3 weeks ago without any issues and even BF3 downloaded ok, but DS3 was a nightmare to get downloaded.

Ok, I'll try it again this weekend and take the game for a spin.

Does anyone here constantly play with a squad? I'm finding more and more of my friends are leaving BF3 and I enjoy the game more when I'm with a squad. So, if anyone is recruiting, I'm here.

been a while i should fire up the engines again , forgot all bout bf3 ........... Im waiting for BF3.5 code name BF4

I also had no issue while downloading BF3, finished quickly :D

Thanks to the The Humble Origin Bundle, I can now play BF3 with my lad. I didn't pay attention, he actually wanted Crysis 2, so it was a pleasant surprise to find BF3 included.

Bought it too, even though I own both those games already. Nice to give to charity. Now to find a deserving friend that wants some games ;)

I normally invade a squad and stick there unless I find a clan colleague.

I wish this game's 'Repair install' option allowed one to PAUSE the update! I have to now do an uninterrupted 2.5+GB update before I can run the game. So goddamn annoying!

Was that the last patch?

I don't know. After the download and installation, the game claimed the game was corrupt and that I need to do a 'Repair install', which amounts to 2.5+GB. I only have Back to Karkand and Close Quarters.

I am too scared to see what I have to download :-/ I really should get back into it.
