Hi there.

My specs
i5-2500k @ 4.5GHz
2x GTX 570 SLi
Cooler master sniper
8GB RAM
AX850w Corsair PSU
60GB ocz vertex 2 SSD
Qnix QX2710 evolution II 2560x1440 @ 96Hz

So i was wondering if I should upgrade gpu or not. I have them money for up to 8-10K on gpu. No titans please was thinking of upgrading to the following

780
7970 Lightning
780 Lightning
wait for either AMD or Nvidia to release next cards

I'm not in a major hurry and can wait but is it worth upgrading now or wait.

Thanks

I think first get some RAM :p

Why don't you go 7950 xFire? Apparently AMD's dual GPU drivers are working properly :)

2x 7950 under R8k:

I'm not really in the SLI or Xfire business anymore as there is to many issues with it. Had my fair share of sli and never again.

I have the following reasons for wanting to upgrade.

1. Resoluiton @ 2560x1440 @ 96Hz
2. Heat. These cards do tend to run @ 85C sometimes on a demanding game unable to get those frames.
3. Lower power usage
4. overclocking

I know they fixed the drivers but still prefer 1 card

I'd also be interested to know what the recommendation is.
I've got 2x Nvidia Geforce 560 TI cards. I'll still need two cards (since I have 3 screens), but if I can replace one card with a card that will be faster than my current two combined, I'd be interested. I'll obviously disable SLI and the one old card will be dedicated to the other monitor (or perhaps both secondary monitors). I'm already having issues with some games like Batman Arkham City that isn't really playable in DX11 mode and there is a couple of other games as well that won't run on high quality.

4x570's? :p
How are they running with your setup? I would recommend waiting till the 8*** series come out as AMD are very price competitive :D

PS Why the 7970 and not GTX 770??? 770 is faster. 780 to 7970...huge difference...

I think your CPU is fine (for now), and as already recommended go for RAM

I say either Gtx780 or wait for HD8xxx. No telling when they will be released. Atm the Gtx 780 lighting is one of the best available if not the best card but, the price in South Africa, I expect it to be +- 12k

Why the hell are you talking about his CPU if the thread is only about his GPU? He didn't even mention RAM, he probably just forgot...

I'm considdering the idea of waiting for new cards then I have at least and idea of performance because If I go for GTX780 now and let's say the Radeon is better than even titan I have wasted my money.

I would wait until the end of September to make your decision. AMD's going to be announcing new products soon and it may be a paper launch or it may be a product launch, I don't know which. In any case, a GTX780 would be your single-GPU replacement. Overclock that by 10% and you'll be almost equal to a Titan. You'll also be able to run three monitors off the one card, although one of them will need to use a DP-DVI active adapter.

This is relevant: GTX 570 sli to GTX 780 - unbelievable!

At the very least, AMD's going to aiming for performance parity with the GTX700 series. They won't have a Titan-beater, but something as fast as the GTX780 is conceivable.

The upside of AMD is their recent huge price drops and in general they are slightly cheaper...

PC Format: Gave a 7970 gold (90 or up)
Titan got 69 (or somewhere around there)

What was the price of AMD 7970 at launch?

US $550, if I remember correctly. In the US it's dropped to around $350-$400 depending on the version you're looking at.

My main problem with all those reviews of the Titan is that not many sites reviewed the card in the right frame of mind. Its a repurposed Tesla card and while its good for gaming, its main strength is GPGPU and professional applications. The sites that gave it low scores mainly looked at the gaming and price perspectives. Its a great card and it earned Nvidia a lot of money from eager enthusiasts, but it wasn't going to be good value for money.

The main reason why the titan got such bad reviews was simply the huge price tag on it...

Or the reviewers just expected too much from a halo product that wasn't made for gaming in the first place? I don't know what most of these people are thinking, but that's my take on it. There's pretty much nothing wrong with a Titan, I guess you could say.

I dont think there is anything wrong either, but they have to rate it in all aspects and the price... was not its strong side
