Oh. Thanks for the info. I've never taken the flu shot...

Who does this!? Is it enforced?

Its always better to get the shot as even normal flu can kill u.

Doctors & the National Health Orginizastion. The Hospitals cant cope with 5 thousand people being admitted everyday coz of flu like symtoms. They send u home, tell u dont go out of ur house for 5 days, dont come within 1 meter of other people. Wash ur hands, dont cough or sneeze openly. And then they monitor it, if things go this way go to hospital.

Imagine this everyday they send lets say 500 or so people to a private lab to be tested, of those 500 maybe 2 has it. Now those 2 are in close proximity to those other 498, so u end up with it spreading. Not to mention the people who work at the labs.

It sucks that some of you keep getting sick. I've been lucky so far this year. I've had a cold once or twice but it didn't last long. Lets hope it stays that way.

I'm thinking of buying one of those masks. I know it's rather silly but you never know what will happen. Are they available at any pharmacy?

Those mask are a waist of time. Even if the virus lands on ur skin from a cough or a sneeze u could still get it. People should just chill. If u get sick buy meds or if u are so inclined go to the Dr, get some antibiotics that wont do jack shit, go home and get fucking better. Stop running around spreading ur germs coz now ur making other people sick who then freak out and end up doing the same thing.

As for WWIII, Tell the Korean's that Obama spat on That other dudes grave.

Im not arguing that, but the mortality rate is pathetically low for a epidemic. if there are 12 billion people in the world the death of 1 million is insignificant.

True, the biggest concern at the moment is the difficulty of stopping it spreading and the virus mutating. That's why the world is on alert. It may not be (I almost said of epidemic proportions haha, but it is) that big yet but it has a chance of becoming big.

Maybe not, but it's still an epidemic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_epidemics

The first new one in years.

Country Indicators Cases Deaths
Intensity/Impact Laboratory
confirmed‡‡ Confirmed
(Suspected)
ECDC total[1] 199,034 1,447
Reports Total 202,084 1,623

Out of 12 billion people not even 2 thousand death, hardly cause for concern.
200k confirmed cases and only 1.6k deaths. That is, if my math is correct, not even a 1% Mortality Rate.

The only diff is that with the global village, we hear about these things alot more and people, even whole countries over react.

The problem is still the possible mutation of the virus making it worse. :)

From wikipedia:
On May 22, 2009, WHO chief Dr. Margaret Chan said that the virus must be closely monitored in the southern hemisphere, as it could mix with ordinary seasonal influenza and change in unpredictable ways. "In cases where the H1N1 virus is widespread and circulating within the general community, countries must expect to see more cases of severe and fatal infections," she said. "[152] Experts writing in the July New England Journal of Medicine note that "historically, pandemic viruses have evolved between seasons, and the current strain may become more severe or transmissible in the coming months." They therefore stress that "international cooperation will be crucial" to engage in proper surveillance to help monitor changes in the virus's behavior, which will aid in both "vaccine targeting" and interpreting illness patterns in the fall of 2009.[111]
Other experts are also concerned that the new virus strain could mutate over the coming months. Guan Yi, a leading virologist from the University of Hong Kong, for instance, described the new H1N1 influenza virus as "very unstable", meaning it could mix and swap genetic material when exposed to other viruses. During an interview he said "Both H1N1 and H5N1 are unstable so the chances of them exchanging genetic material are higher, whereas a stable (seasonal flu) virus is less likely to take on genetic material." The H5N1 virus is mostly limited to birds, but in rare cases when it infects humans it has a mortality rate of between 60% to 70%.[153] Experts worry about the emergence of a hybrid of the more virulent Asian-lineage HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza) A/H5N1 strain (media labeled "bird flu") with more human-transmissible Influenza A strains such as this novel 2009 swine-origin A/H1N1 strain (media labeled "swine flu"), especially since the H5N1 strain is and has been for years endemic in birds in countries like China, Indonesia, Vietnam and Egypt.[153][154] (See the suite of H5N1 articles for details.)
Nor had federal health officials in the U.S. dismissed the possibility that the worst was yet to come. "Far from it," Ann Schuchat of the CDC says, noting that the horrific 1918 flu epidemic, which killed hundreds of thousands in the United States alone, was preceded by a mild "herald" wave of cases in the spring, followed by devastating waves of illness in the autumn. "That 1918 experience is in our minds," she said.[155]
As of late July, U.S. health officials said that the swine flu "isn't yet mutating to become more dangerous," but they are closely tracking that as the virus continues to circle the globe.

Very True. But people are increasing the chances of that happening. Our Dr's give 2 types of Anibiotics to all the patients who come in with flu. All it takes is for 1 of them 2 have the flu and not finish their meds for the virus to mutate.

The thing is that countries have to overreact since it rates at 6/6 on the epidemic scale. The virus has to be brought under control. If the countries do not act then the virus will not stop spreading and eventually mutating. That's why it's seen as so dangerous and such hectic steps are taken to prevent it. :)

It sucks that there are doctors giving antibiotics for people with flu symptoms. :(

You are right, that will make things worse.

http://current.com/items/90042995_swine-flu-mutates-into-zombie-flu.htm

There has been a small outbreak of “zombism” in London due to mutation of the H1N1 virus into new strain: H1Z1.

Similar to a scare originally found in Cambodia back in 2005, victims of a new strain of the swine flu virus H1N1 have been reported in London.

After death, this virus is able to restart the heart of it’s victim for up to two hours after the initial demise of the person where the individual behaves in extremely violent ways from what is believe to be a combination of brain damage and a chemical released into blood during “resurrection.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised the alert to phase six, its highest level, and advised governments to activate pandemic contingency plans.

Hahahahahahah!!!!! Classic!

Obviously those hectic steps failed. The moment the news got out the virus jumped all over the world. Trust me i hear what ur saying, i understand it. Having a nurse for a mother, the biochemist for a fiance and working with Dr's everyday i know all those dangers. My point is that people are the problem. Especially the media, they give info only from one side, people, idiots that they are, only hear a small portion of that one side before jump on the bandwagon and crashing into the applecart.
En dan maak jy vir Koos wakker want hy nog nooi so groot fokop gesien nie.
