4 next-gen racing games speeding our way

O yes it surely is a good time to be a petrol head. Forza 5 is my pick of the bunch, but from what I've seen NFS will be just as great.

I'm looking at this and going meh.

Need for speed is just gonna be random people crashing into the side of you at every intersection, Need for t-bone. Then we have the crew which looks for like a cartoon than a racing game, I saw a video of an offroad mustang but all I could say is that much power to the back wheels on dirt equals marriage to a tree.

I don't have any faith in any of these games, if it isn't a u-turn back into chaos then it's just a game upgraded with pretty graphics on a console I wouldn't even want to be in the same room as so that game is also out onto the streets for me. Then we have Driveclub which is inspired by call of duty, just FTW. He spent half the presentation talking about the tiny details in making the car look pretty but didn't once mention handling or grip, gameplay was all about little pop-ups and challenges to distract you.

This is why I like Grid 2, it doesn't force facebook gameplay into your game but at the end of the race it ranks you against your friends time, it gives you the option to go back and compete or move on at your pace, it doesn't shove it in your face.

I'm definately pre-ordering The Crew, and NFS Rivals. Although I wish Rivals was something fresh and new, not Hot Pursuit spiced up.

While I will agree with some of your points here, I do have some issues as well. I get that the whole social integration has been a bit much in the past, especially in NFS games, but they do add a different dimension to a very similar and plateaued gaming genre. I mean if you are not improving the graphics, adding extra types of races or going the full simulation route, what else are you going to add to a new generation of racing games? So it is quite logical to assume the developers will go the route of social interaction within the games. How else are you going to distinguish your racing game from the rest?

Also a game that actually does cater to your needs (at least reading into your comment) is Forza, believe it or not. It does have that social integration, but if you don't go looking for it, you will never even know it's there. If you want to just go for a ride, you can do that as well in game. It never forces you to do anything you don't want to. And for that matter we can also add GT to that. Don't let your hatred for a console (that's actually not that bad at all) hamper you from playing one of the best driving games out there.

I agree 100% with you that The Crew looks a bit silly and stupid. I'm not interested in it at all.
