FNB & eBucks: Updated website and partners

For those of you who are with FNB and like earning eBucks, thought I'd let you know about this. I only stumbled across it by accident just now.

Firstly they've redesigned their website and you can now better see and manage your earning level (you used to do this from the FNB website before they upgraded it).

More importantly, you can now earn up to 15% eBucks back from buying at Checkers & Shoprite as well as on Prepaid electricity. I'm on level 5 so I'll have to make a couple of changes on my side, but that should earn me extra eBucks worth of at least R300 per month.

Just thought I should mention it to those of you with FNB... those who bank elsewhere can just ignore this thread.

Man, I must really drop ABSA. I honestly don't know why I stay with them. ABSA rewards is such a pathetic program that I almost pay more to use it than what I make.

It be www.ebucks.com

Looks a lot like FNB's site but slightly..better somehow. I'm on level 2 :/ For me to go up I have to either spend more money, make debt or open am investment account with them :(

I spoke with my premier banker and she gave me a couple of tips. Create a savings pocket with a minimum balance of R2000 and a bank your change of R2 or more I believe will increase your monthly ebucks allocation significantly. The other thing is to create a 6 month fixed deposit of R10,000 or more. This immediately pushes you up into the next earnings level.

I am on level 3 now, I was on level 1 a month ago :P

Yeah, it is on eBucks.com.

Since July, they've made it easier to earn eBucks. As of September, I'm finally back on level 5 after they screwed me around a bit in the previous year. And the great thing is that on level 5, you get 40% discounts on some things. I bought R6000 worth of Makro vouchers us R3600 worth of eBucks that I had saved up. Planning on buying a proper surround sound system with it this month.

Couple of simple things to increase earning level:

- Savings pocket of R2000 as mentioned above
- Have an overdraft on your cheque account and use at least 10% of it at least once during the month. At one stage, I simply transfer some funds from my cheque account to my savings pocket and transfer it back later if I need to (otherwise I just leave it there)
- Go into FNB and ask that they activate the Roadside Assistance on your cheque account (costs R5 per month)
- Don't withdraw funds from the bank directly
- Only receive statements via email (although, I think everyone is probably doing this already)
- Make at least one online purchase during the month
- Then this is a nice new booster: Make sure that your cash withdrawals for the month are done from the till at Pick n Pay, Checkers, etc. At least more than half must be done there instead of at the ATM. Since they've introduced this rule, I've been doing it every month at Pick n Pay whenever I go to buy supplies.
- Finally, focus everything through your cheque card. Credit card, while better in the beginning, is capped at 1% regardless of your level and you pay an annual fee to earn eBucks. The maximum amount of eBucks you can earn is also less. On cheque card, you earn 1.2% on level 4 and 2.4% on level 5 for normal transactions and it is free. I now only use my Cheque account with overdraft. My credit card is clean and lying in a safe.

I don't know about the "bank your change" mentioned above with regards to earning points towards earning level. Might be something new, but I don't see it on their website. The things above though won't really cost you anything and you'll get at minimum 1350 extra points for the month.

It takes a while to get there but it is worth it in the end. With these new changes, I should be getting back around R700 per month in eBucks.

Thought about opening the fixed for the hell of it. Will definitely look at that savings pocket.

The fixed deposit automatically bumps you up one earning level. (so does having a homeloan)

Yeah, it is on eBucks.com.

I won't dip into my OD just to earn some more ebucks, but I will consider the roadside assistance if I recover enough to make it feasible.

The OD is worth 300 points. Since it is just for a couple of days, the interest earned will cancel out the interest due.

The fixed deposit booster... is that for earning eBucks on fuel and normal card purchases as well or is it just for discount level? E.g. Level 4 discount @ 30% -> Level 5 discount @ 40%

It's still not that easy to dip into the OD if you have more funds lying in your account, also I have an issue with it in principle (rewarding people for going into the red is never good imo).

I am not sure about the booster levels, it's probably best that you contact your premier banker and ask him/her.

anyone know what this is : STB AIRTIME REWARD, I get this every month in varying amounts and i only spend like R45 rand on a data bundle

also, are you guys seeing your credit card and cheque accounts details on the ebucks portal or just one entry
