Dishonored: Game of the Year Edition announced

I don't get why these companies call these things GotY editions when they weren't the game of the year? Why not just call it Complete?

Considered Game of the Year by Edge Magazine and British Academy of Film and Television Arts. I suppose that's enough.
So it's GotY as proclaimed by 3. So not everybody needs to have a say.
Having said that, Dishonored is a great game - not to be missed. IMO.

I enjoyed the game but I can't understand the big hoo-ha around it.

I played much better games during the year.

There may have been better, but for its genre, it was different. As apposed to the typical "sneak around, kill stuff and steal stuff" you have different methods and ways and means of approaching certain scenarios/areas. It gave the game more depth and a greater feeling of being able to go where you want -- like Assassin's Creed, for example.

I agree, but for me going in all guns blazing was way more fun than the sneaky way.

That is the beauty of the game I suppose, you can play it to fit your liking.

I am used to the GOTY moniker, you know exactly what you are getting.

And obviously it is a great marketing ploy to get people to buy your game that is actually an old game.

Yes. Sneaking or Rambo is possible. But, since one is playing a supernatural assassin, sneaking just seems the better choice.

My main issue with the game was that the sneaking approach was simply way too easy. Blink made it almost impossible to get caught and as long as you stayed above eye level you simply would never get caught, as the AI couldn't look up.

If you could ignore that, though, Dishonored was a really nice game. The two DLC campaigns were also great. In fact, I think they're even better than the original campaign.

I hope the reboot of the Thief series is way better. This game, although decent sets the baseline. I didn't particularly enjoy it.

I hecticly enjoyed Dishonored. The diseased industrial setting and whale oil industry was really depressing but Corvo's all round bad-assery made up for it. I didn't enjoy playing as Daud so much in the dlc missions. Way prefer Corvo's character.

I don't know, I felt Daud had a lot more depth to his character than Corvo did. He had an interesting backstory and interesting motivations. Corvo, on the other hand, was basically an empty shell for the player to inhabit. No personality and no character depth. The fact that he was a mute didn't endear him to me either.

Gameplay-wise, Corvo beats Daud hands-down. Playing as Daud was just way too easy and not nearly as interesting as Corvo. Especially seeing as many of Daud's abilities aimed at making the game easier, such as blink slowing down time, etc.

I've watched the gameplay videos, and trailers before it was released but was never really wowed into buying it. It seemed like Assassins Creed, but darker and more futuristic. I really enjoy the AC games and would probably enjoy this too - anyone care to weigh in?

Eh, not really. The gameplay between AC and Dishonored is miles apart. Aside from both including stealth elements, they're not even vaguely similar.
