Intel or AMD - CPU power

At the moment if you want power, there is no other option that to go with Intel. The i7's are something else. But AMD, as stated here already has some good chipsets for good prices, but none match the power of Intel.

I have the 955 BE and it is a fantastic CPU. I run all my games on max settings and 4/9XAA, but this is obvioulsy more GPU dependent. Lets just say that my 955BE (clocked at around 3.8GHz) does not seem to bottleneck my 2 4870s :)

The 965 is also going to be a monster, but it wont touch the top end i7, and i9 is going to destroy the world when it is released.

So, to answer the op's question: Intel i7, without a doubt. Would I buy one? No.
 
Well I just looked at prophecy and the difference between the i7 920 and the AMD 955BE is +-R400. Working at the R3000 price range I think its not that bad to get much more power. All depends on your budget and whether you a fanboi, yes AMD lovers I'm looking at you :p
 
Well - then you need an x58 board and ddr3 ram instead of a barebones phenom2. And so the argument spirals on...

Installed my AMD 955BE tonight, i only realise now how much a of a difference it makes in games. Especially GTA4 :D beautiful
3.8Ghz, is that using stock cooler?

It does. The variables are to much for a decision. You need to look at specific price points. I just know that if I'm spending 14K+ on a rig I want the best...
