Multi-platform BBM is being announced at a special event in Indonesia tomorrow (Thursday 19 September) and
BBM will go live officially the next day on Friday 20 September and on iOS Saturday 21 September
Blackberry has denied a tweet by Samsung Nigeria about Exclusive Samsung availability and have confirmed BBM will be available for all Android (and IOS) devices at launch, with no exclusivity.

I don't see the point. I had a BlackBerry ages ago and started hating BBM - all the "Pinging" and broadcast messages were annoying.

I'm not too sure about the necessity of BBM going to other platforms. It is pretty basic and it has so many other competitors on these platforms (that do their jobs much better than BBM). Unless this is just some way to lure BB subscribers over to other platforms, I don't see how this is will make any impact at all.

Its actually one of the preferred IM apps, mainly because of the BBM pin feature , and although I'm an Android fan  HTC ONE is my new addition
I have to say I never really liked whattsapp and KIK and these other chat apps , but on the work BB the messenger is so much easier and to use , there are 2 things I like in BBM their mail (this includes the compression) and the BB messenger .

Not sure if it will translate well on Android and iOS but its worth a shot .

As to if they are making money nope , they are making 0 .this is purely them trying to capitalise on the popularity of one of their features to create more awareness for Black Berry which is really struggling .

I tried, but it is impossible. only vodascum carries them and I don't even think I've ever seen one in CT

Don't worry, when I move down to CT you'll be able to see one...:p

And yes I agree with Venom this is by far the best phone I've ever had.

Back on topic, I don't think I have any friends of family left that are on BB still, so I'm not really interested in the app. BB's numbers have gone down, which is probably why they decided to move their premier service onto other platforms. The question I like to ask is why not on Windows Phones? Why only Android and iPhone?

maybe they still have a glimmer of hope in become the no 3 mobile os, at the moment windows phone is no 3 and if bbm appears on the win mo 8 platform the bb phones and os would be completely redundant (which it already is in my book)

Im a MTN guy but I got mine from VODAWORLD midrand they delivered it to Durban for me , but MTN is offering it now on request .

Back to BBM
I will chalk it up more to curiosity , and the ability to be able to connect with anyone you meet now cause you ar'nt limited to what platform they use.

Windows 8 phone... Yea... Friend curses daily because of the interface and whatsapp is not always working.

I am getting a contract and have a choice of a 9360, Lumia 520 and a LG Optimus L7 II. I am taking the LG, thankfully BBM is not samsung only (all the advertising makes it look as if Samsung has it exclusively).

My next phone will be a WP8 because I currently only use my phone for texts, calls, browsing and the occasional camera pics. With WP8 I will be able to link my gamertag and earn achievements so that will be a big motivator for me to play more with the phone. Otherwise I could get a cheap phone with a voucher and actually buy myself something I would use. . .
