Cabinet has approved that a draft bill banning alcohol advertising should be gazetted for public comment, Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini said on Friday.

"The intention of the bill is to reduce the exposure to the advertising and promotion of alcohol," she said in a statement on Friday.

"The harmful use of alcohol has significant negative impacts on individuals, families, communities, the economy and the country as a whole."

Enforcement and education, you uneducated swines! Not banning! Blithering idiots!!!

No one doubts the impact of alcohol abuse, but the causes need to be understood. I would think that advertising is way done on the causal ranking.

Yes and by banning alcohol advertising you have solved the problem

Yeah they should ban cigarettes too.

They banned the advertising of them on all types of media, yet people still smoke. Advertising only does so much for certain products and people, other than that they know they can go to almost any store and buy a box of cigarettes - and thats without seeing any form of advertisement.

And the point of this is what exactly?

Regardless if they can or can not advertise any form of alcohol. Alcohol abuse, "social" drinking, underaged drinking, drunk and driving, and all the other nasties shall still occur just as they do now, and will continue as per the norm.
