This project is a remake from fans of a classic Need For Speed 3: Hot Pursuit, created by fans for fans. It is developed by an independent group of people, hardcore fans of racing games and the first parts of the NFS in particular. We have passed by many times all of the classic Need For Speed’s, on consoles and PC. Now we need something more.
For a start, we are planing to faithfully recreate all the tracks and cars of the third part. If there will be interest of fans – we have an idea to make a collection of all the tracks and cars from the first to the fourth part in the same project, in a modern engine, and it will be absolutely free.
All objects on the tracks are recreated in high-poly modern replicas of the originals. All textures are replaced with new, high-resolution, most similar to the original. We will fight for maximum recognition!

To keep things interesting here are some screenshots, it’s only pre-alpha and screenshots were made from the editor view. The final graphics will be much better.
(I do not know the origin of the vertical line, some kind of bug with Fraps. In the game it doesn’t exist

Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, released in Japan as Over Drivin' III: Hot Pursuit, is a racing video game released in 1998

Cast your mind back... Imagine seeing shading like that in 1998.

Nostalgia won't make this mod look any better. It's 2013 and that the perspective we look from.

LOOKS SHIT

/runs

Wow that looks bad...

exactly ..

Looks kakka lol

yeah, why even waste your time. It looks bad.

there's a reason why its called pre alpha, also the textures are not completed and the low poly track was directly imported from a a 15 year old game, with some assets thats replaced with high poly models , obviously it will get more polish over the coming months. and making a mod on this level is not something thats easy.

these guys are doing a pretty impressive job in my book

But, its bad regardless. The nostalgic level people are gonna have to have to look past this is too much in my opinion. Seems like a waste of time.

Its may be a pre-alpha, but it still looks shit. Saying it looks like shit now doesn't mean it won't look cool down the line. But in its current state... it looks shit. We are allowed to say it looks shit even if its a pre-alpha.

because of such attitudes like urs thats why most mods never get done, these are not done by guys with 100 million budgets these mods are done by okes in their spare time trying to remake a classic game that is not even even compatible with current versions of windows (try and run nfs 3 on windows 7 and see whats gonna happen). so even if it does look schitte it still looks better than the original one, if it looks so schitte why dont u go and make a better version, im sure u have the technical knowledge to pull it off

I didn't like NFS III all that much, partly due to the fact that the cockpits did not render when using 3DFX, so you only had bumper and rear views.

NFS2 SE, NFS4 and Porsche Unleashed were the best of that generation though. I don't even like Porsche in general, but to date remains my most played NFS game. Love it!

How's your project coming alone DOHC?

So you not allowed to have a negative opinion on a low budget indie mod, pre-alpha? I'm sure the reason project like this complete has nothing to do with opinions like mine but rather its a labour of love. On top if the fact i didn't once say they shouldn't do it or it won't be cool down the line.

I don't get your point of I should do it myself. Are you also not allowed to have an opinion if you not an expert in the field and can't do it yourself? Critics wouldn't be allowed to comment on anything be it a movie or game.

I was just being honest, and it seems I wasn't the only person who thought it. Surely you posted this for opinions? Its the first thing that struck me about it. I guess I forgot how bad the original looked since I thought I was looking at the screenshots of the old version. Also I assume they want a wider audience to be interested? If the overwhelming feedback is the graphics look bad, I think they just got some good feedback on where they should focus to drive more interest? Unless they just making it for themselves, then awesome our opinion really doesn't matter. I wish them goodluck and hope it turns out well.

still a work in progress, having issues with the modified executable, mp3 plugin is not cooperating so well and having some buffer issues which makes the game run well but chows too much windows mem to my liking !
