SA school attack blamed on GTA: report

Oh wow we really thought our media could be more imaginative than this. We expect too much from them.

I thought those kind of people like to blame everything on satanism, is poor Pan being outdone by GTA? lol.

When do you rape woman? As for as I know you pay for the pleasure of a woman :p

“Players gain points when they perpetrate very serious violent acts. If you kill a woman with your bare hands you get points. They also get points for raping a woman,”

i played GTA since the first one (birds eye view). never once was there anything remotely close to the word rape, infact i don’t ever think any character in GTA has even said the word rape...

Dont open you mouth if you know nothing about the game...

Why are the kids playing GTA?

EWN = South African version of Fox News. Seriously, don't pay any attention to them. It's like listening to an illiterate trying to read a bed-time story.

O MY F$%K Really FFS no man this blaming on games people play is rubbish. Parents need to wake up on what the kids are playing.

I bet that kid dose not even have GTA. Even then this act was done before GTA V. Its not the Teachers fault its the parents for letting this happen. Teachers have no Power anymore what can they do. Parents are making it the teachers discipline the kids, but when they do they get flak for it. This journalist needs to wake up and not copy paste other work and blame shift what is really going on with the youth.

If they blame it on GTA then they means a whole class of +/- 30 people all play the game and its the games fault that they are rude, disrespectful and full of Sh$T. I think that's rubbish.

People need to know more about the world step back and look at whats really going on and why its happening and not blame something that will never solve the state of chaos that's going on.

Full article here http://ewn.co.za/2013/09/25/GTA-Glenvista-High , many folk just like here, do not agree with the opinion piece.

Erm

The deep-rooted issues the shooters were facing probably can’t be blamed fully on computer games, and while their final actions might have been informed in part by games, it was not the sole contributor to their actual actions by any stretch of the imagination. While it was nowhere near the same level of violence, I’m sure the same would prove true in any other case, including Glenvista. In the coming weeks we’ll likely hear more about the psychological states of the Glenvista and Sasolburg boys, and find that there were greater problems in their lives than computer games.

Don’t blame one game, or one pageant, albeit if they are in poor taste. There’s probably no point in banning games, and age restrictions clearly don’t help. Banning drugs hasn’t helped stem their use by much and, unlike games or movies, drugs can’t simply be downloaded. Violence will remain a part of films, games and, for some kids, everyday life as long as it remains something which is glorified and glamorous. This is done by society as a whole, not just one game. It isn’t something you can stop with one law or sanction. At the very least, parents need to be able to show their kids the difference between fantasy and reality, as realistic as that fantasy may be.

The many folks here don't agree with the OP. That article you linked takes a rational approach to the problem, especially underlining that violent games is just a single factor that contributes to shootings and such.

My bad Lyt, thought the OP was referencing the article I linked to.

yep, when I bought my copy there was a lady buying gta for her son. Shop guy asked her the age of her son and she said 14. Shop guy asked her if she was aware that the game had a rating of 18. Then she asked if it was worse than the previous gta's. The whole shop (there was about 5 guys in there) said 'yes!' in unison. She bought it anyway without hesitation.

Fail parenting. Porn is also rated 18, does she buy that for her son?
