Capitec Global One Account Short Questions

I am not too sure about that, they told me to collect my card at the Rink Street branch. I am not too sure what my branch is, I opened this student account when standard bank was on campus.

Thats Park Towers Arcade, it's next to Green Acres.

Don't cheque cards come with an overdraft facility, hence the credit check?
No.

But they would have run a credit check when you apply for the facility. I can't see the rationale for running a credit check on a card application. In any event it doesn't really matter,
Well I already said it doesn't make much sense. That being said: A facility on an SA account allows for SA debit card purchases. The cheque card introduces an international angle. Maybe thats what triggers the second credit check. I doubt it costs the bank much so its probably just for good measure.

it was more of an interesting observation by the poster.
lol - you didn't follow the thread. He wouldn't have noticed had i not mentioned it before he applied for the card. Its buried in one of the bazzillion forms they ask you to sign.

Hey guys, I got my Cheque card! :), I am going through the little document that came with it, and it says I will be charged an annual card fee. How much is this fee? Do they charge it to students? (I have the Student Achiever Account).

Weird. I don't think I got charged anything. Was a while back though.

Remember to be careful with it...not much protection on it compared to a CC. I used mine only for steam.

Thanks for the information, I hope they will not charge me an annual fee :) Although, I wouldn't mind if it was really small like less than R20. I will definitely be careful with it. Will only use well-known online shops with it.

It also says that transactions of R200 or less may not require a pin, and that there is a fee for paying with it online to a website that uses other currency (currency conversion fee).

Just got mine last week. I've only loaded cash into the account so far but it's really quick to apply for and set up. I have an Absa student account which, when I was applying for they promised was able to be used online but apparently the security service they use (3D Secure) is only used on credit cards. So far I've only heard good things about it. still looking for something worth buying online.

The alternative is FNB but apparently their bank charges are a bit pricey but then again you get ALL the services

Does your bank card have your name(s) on it? My debit card doesn't have my name(s) on it and it doesn't work online anywhere.

Names is not the issue,
You need a Visa or Mastercard for online purchases. With Expiry dates and CVS number at the back.

I've used my Capitec card to purchase on eBay twice already and do other purchases like computicket. It's really cool and easy to do.

Yoh that is so cool! My card just has Mr [initial] [surname], the expiry date, card number and CVC no :(

Gonna give my card a test drive today, going to order pizza online now.

YEAY!! It worked!! :D

I logged into Internet Banking, and it shows "OUTSTANDING CARD AUTHORIZATION DEBONAIRS" I assume that means the money will clear in a few days time?

You have to wait at least 24hrs for your online services to activate.

Lol. Just remember to limit your monthly transactions + swipes to 5 max, otherwise you'll pay R20 transaction fee.

IIRC the annual fee is R100.

Holy shit, R100 per year for a Cheque card! Yoh okay, I just hope when they deduct the R100 that my account is loaded with dough :) Yoh I will try keep it down to 5 transactions....its really hard coz every month I always lose R20 for transactions :(

My monthly bank charges are between R12 and R14.

Capitec Bank I assume?

Hayi paying R20 per month + the R100 yearly fee is pricey (R340 per year).

Hayi I think I will have to sit down one day and have a look at all the major bank's offerings and Capitec, see which one suits me best.

Yes I'm with Capitec, used to be with FNB but they were screwing me with bank charges, stuff I wasn't even using.

... Be warned though - With steam rather purchase funds for your wallet than a game for some reason MC bills the account up to 3 days after the purchase instead of immediately. I do not know why they just do...

What problems does this cause? Not getting the game in your account until they bill you or something?
