Guys what is the average waiting period to install a ADSL line in ones home(if you go for the Self-Install Order from Telkom).

All depends on Telkom. Usually what they do is rock up at your house some random day during the week without telling you they are coming (even if you especially stress to them that they must let you know at least what day to expect them), and then bugger off because no-one is home. And then when you call to find out why it's taking so long, they say no the technician was there last week, but no-one was there, so now you have to re-schedule.
That's my experience at least.

Ya I find the best strategy is to just keep phoning over and over, and hopefully you get hold of someone competent who can help.
The problem is the call center people and the technicians are completely separate, so the people you can talk to can't really even communicate properly with the technicians, they can just log that there's an installation to be done or something, and you can't actually get to talk to the technicians at all.

I moved into my house on a Saturday, that Monday Telkom installed my line and activated the DSL portion of the line.
My only advice to you is, find someone that gives a shit and latch onto them. I started nagging this oke the Thurs before we moved.

I don't know who decides what order things should be stocked in vending machines here, but whoever it is, is a troll of note.
The snacks machine has all the smashable stuff like biscuits right at the top, and then chips and cup-a-soup and stuff is at the bottom.
Likewise, the drinks machine has all the carbonated stuff at the top, and the Just Juice at the bottom so the fizziest stuff has the furthest to fall.
