Most underrated game you've ever played?

We all know that there is always this hullabaloo over the next AAA-title [and they are usually quite good]; but it is the low key productions that tend to really capture your heart.

So to that end; I believe we should pay tribute to those titles. Name the most underrated game you've ever played.

Me personally would be Alpha Protocol. Mechanics could use some polishing I admit; but the game makes you feel like you are an actual spy. The world itself actually has far reaching and truly unpredictable repercussions for your actions. VA's are amazing and the characters feel like actual people. They have issues, they have quirks, they remind of someone you know. Story wise is one of the best you'll see this side of Mass Effect.

Truly an epic game. And I would pay so much money to see a refined sequel.

Your guys' thoughts?

Vampire masquerade:bloodlines.

It was such an underrated game. Huge cult classic, there isn't even a sequel :p

Very dark atmosphere, lots of horror movie references, great music and ambient tracks.

I think the bugs killed it

My option HAS to be Thomas Was Alone.

I truly unique experience and one hell of a narrative. Very enjoyable and quirky game, despite it's extremely simple approach. I don't think or feel it got the recognition it deserves.

The patches sorted it out :p well for me anyway. I had a bug where the game would keep on crashing each time I tried to leave a certian area took me ages to get the patch at the time didn't have the net :(

Hmmm.. I think sleeping dogs is my number one, its so hard to break into the open world market with Rockstar on the throne, you'll probably have to do something outrageous to get in cough..Saintsrow iv..cough, but anyway it was a great game interesting melee component , fun gameplay, driving was pretty crazy to.

I never played arcanum:of steamworks.

what about torment?

I figure it has its place in the history books and will always be held in high regard. Vamp, Gothic and Arcanum were underrated completely and their brilliance lost on far too many.

They're special to me though.

I started playing 1 and it wad pretty good, but after an hour or 2 I decided to ditch it and just go straight to the second one, which worked better for me

I can see what you mean when you say that. although I ended up ditching both and laying KOTOR :D

I actually really disliked Risen 2. The entire magic (read: mage class) side of things was totally ruined (and, for me, it's the one thing I loved the most about the Gothic/Risen series).

They replaced fire/black magic with "Voodoo."

Laaame!

I wanted my fireballs and demons!

Must be toss-up between:

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

And the Gothic series.

Arcanum! Now that game was massive and complex. I was a bit young when it came out so a lot of it went over my head, but I've still got very vivid memories of playing it and watching my dad play!
