Halloween is actually Celtic in origin. We just associate it with American culture because of the huge number of movies (and TV series) from the USA that depict All Hallows' Eve.

Which had given me the impression that it was an American-celebrated tradition - primarily. Thanks for the info.

Don't worry, few people in the R of SA would actually know that. Like many things, the yanks didn't invent it, they just tweaked and popularized it.
