Here is my "create interesting threads" thread

This is my opinion and nothing else. See and do what you want with it.

For the past bunch of competitions I've seen on My Gaming it seems to be in the "Be a forum troll / spammer and win category."

When the criteria for winning states the following I see it as very much "ri-tarded."

To stand a chance to win one of the prizes:

--Be active on the forum: post often and create interesting threads
--The top 25 users will each win a 10GB Afrihost account
--The top ranked member will also win the Philips sound system

Everyone who visits My Gaming does not automatically fall into the same group. Some actually do have jobs where they are required to work and can't sit and post, troll, reply, fight or just simply annoy others for an e-peen status just to be able to stand a chance of winning a prize.

I know a lot of people who like My Gaming mostly for the news articles, updates and having a look at the odd form post that is not a bunch of spam or an internet fight, but it seems they are not considered worthy of really entering a competition these days so there is a F'k them mentality from My Gaming towards these types of visitors.

Might as well not do the "local is lekker" thing for info and news in the first place then...?

With that sort of system the winners will always come from an X top % pool that will include +- the same people every time unless some new spammer or troll joins the race or someone maybe drops out due to having to leave the basement for a medical emergency.

Are you seriously that desperate for quantity & spamming instead of something actually worth reading?

Just drop the Top 25 activity bull and run normal competitions as people have done for years. I'm sure you actually do have more than a handful of readers...

I do rate this post is worth 500+ points, but then again what do I know and why would I really care...

So you go to all that effort of typing a post and you post it in the news section. For shame man, for shame.

Activity contests are there to promote activity. If you don't like it, don't take part in them, it's really that easy.

I really think the 'most active user wins' is a bad idea.
I don't mind the one where the top users go in a raffle, but this will lead to some super spammy action to get to the top.

That said, I'm not one to tell mygaming how to run the site; content is king after all.

Stupid comment. You clearly have not even read the post and replies just to get a bigger e-peen rating. Shame on you!

Lol to boot its in the "news" section.

OC this need to be in the news section. This is news & I make news :D

This sums it up for me really.

Pls stop making e-peen posts for rating. These 1 liners are really not needed

No need to get all snotty now... You are the one that has been a member since 2009 and only contributed 238 posts to this forum... Please tell me again why you deserve to win these comps? This is all about opinions within a community. Be it on Gaming, Hardware, News or shit talk. We have also established a few weeks back that you only need to make a maximum of about 5 posts per day to fall in the 25 most active members list. Whats stopping you? If you can read the threads I'm sure you can give your opinion as well.

(P.S. and I know I am a postwhore, please don't point it out again)

POST WHORE! why should one hit wonders that don't contribute towards the site win anything? I think its great that active members are getting rewarded.

LoL ag dankie Tsar! And proud of it!

I agree 100%!!!!

I like the casual assumption the the top 25 contributors are forum trolls or spammers, and that they don't in fact contribute anything to this forum.

I'm sure you have lots of evidence supporting this casual assumption.

I know, but let me have my fun now ok?

lol @ postwhore :D

I don't want to win and I did not start this thread because of that. Maybe I just had the balls to make the post after another friend mentioned that he does not like the way they doing it.

5 posts is a LOT when you don't really have something to say. I don't see the reason to just post for the sake of posting. Do it when it is really worth reading, but 70% of post made could just have been skipped in the 1st place.

@Tsar Why are you not in the army already? Pls leave the whores alone. Go cold turkey!

I think for this competition people want that Philips thing, and will do whatever it takes to get it.

 Feeling better now! :p

Okay I get what you are saying, but look at us... There's Miley Cyrus hanging on a ball and licking a hammer and we give our opinions. Ons se wat ons daarvan dink. Even if it's just a simple line like: I really think she needs to slow down a bit before she gets burned. Every day James posts the most interesting threads/news and I'm sure you and your mates can comment on some of that?

Get what I'm saying?

For the past bunch of competitions I've seen on My Gaming it seems to be in the "Be a forum troll / spammer and win category."

When the criteria for winning states the following I see it as very much "ri-tarded."

The forum is a pillar of MyGaming - why shouldn't we run competitions designed to reward our active members? Such users would be justified in complaining that "zero-effort" competitions wind up rewarding people who do nothing to contribute". Indeed, that was previously a complaint and this system addresses that.

Also, let's just disregard the poll-vote competitions we still run (because we wouldn't want anything to undermine your rant).

I know a lot of people who like My Gaming mostly for the news articles, updates and having a look at the odd form post that is not a bunch of spam or an internet fight, but it seems they are not considered worthy of really entering a competition these days so there is a F'k them mentality from My Gaming towards these types of visitors.

Yes, that makes perfect sense. We work hard to break local news and generate unique content because "fuck the people who want to read that". The only reason we do any of this is to run competitions to reward people for reading articles they didn't really want to read in the first place.

Everyone who visits My Gaming does not automatically fall into the same group. Some actually do have jobs where they are required to work and can't sit and post, troll, reply, fight or just simply annoy others for an e-peen status just to be able to stand a chance of winning a prize.

For someone who barely has time to post on a forum, you seem to know an awful lot about the quantity and quality of the posts. Perhaps you could lead by example if it bothers you so much?

Nice jabs at the regulars though, with basement-dweller jokes and insinuations that the forum consists of trolls and spammers who mostly post garbage.

Remind me why you deserve to win a competition that rewards our active members?

I do rate this post is worth 500+ points, but then again what do I know and why would I really care...

Noted.

Thanks James

This is like the 10th time someone like you raised this "issue" and every time it's sour grapes from someone just here for the freebies (IMO). Thanks for your thoughts but I'm tired people bitching about this top 25 thing. I have to suck it up every time some nobody wins, doesn't say thank you and we never see him again after 20 posts, you can get over a worthwhile winner for once.

I'm guessing this isn't the last complaint that's going to be had regarding the competitions. There is at least one every other month.
And some complain about the competition types, but have no intention of entering or wanting to win anything. Doesn't that by default classify your complaint as "null and void"?
