Water Cooling

Nope, haven't seen a real one, plus it's a really rare set up. These systems are normally for the big guys with plenty of cash, not students.

Check this out though

True; but the best part about being a Computer Engineer is being allowed to experiment :D

Doesn't help me, I'm a bcom Accounting student. The only PCs I'll be playing with will be audit clients and I'm not sure I can do this to their equipment.

Guys this is really awesome, thanks a ton! I will watch it after it downloaded and voice my opinion and if all goes well, I will make my own video and do it just to see how it works and keep u all updated!

Hmmm. Hang on we can be onto something here. If you find any client that has their finances in arrears; you could "humbly request" a "token" of their "gratitude" in order to maintain a "neutral quiet". You can then use these "tokens" to fund the Oil-Computing project :D

And then he looses the chance to become an accountant, looses his 4-5 year articles depending on if he has done it yet, and looses a shit ton of money that he has spent on his studies. Not to bright there Snare, not too bright at all.

After watching the video it proves that the oil cooling does not make much of a difference to ur temperature unless u run it with a pricey radiator. So don't think I will be doing that. I think I will just try and do the water cooling thing, that looks like the more viable option.

Holly balls! I would have never thought of using a fish tank hahaha, this looks so dam awesome! At first I was seconding what Snoek said, why take the risk? But then after seeing that pic I fell like im obligated hahaha. It really is dam cool man! Still not too sure if I would do it but I think using an old Pentium 2 or something will be good just to start testing it and not just jam my rig into a fish tank with oil hahaha. But I am def gonna do something to see how it works :D

Thanks for the link and the help!

That....is amazing. That is genuinely OMFG cool.... (see what I did there)

What if you put Siamese fighting fish in there!! or like crazy electric eels... Or use your case as an enclosure for a bearded dragon or something!! The potential is endless :D

I'm always a bit nervous when it comes to modding my case , considering the money that went into this PC but I would gladly experiment with someone elses provided they'd be willing to provide one for science!

Or go full mad scientist

Go to the junk yard and find an old AC unit ( the one with 2 parts) and pull out the half that houses the radiator.
Rip out the old compressor (its likely also broken since it was scrap) and replace it with a large water pump, fan also if need be. Attach that to your outside wall. Then drill a hole in your wall and feed the tubing and power cable through. Connect the 2 tubes to the inflow and outflow valve and wire the water pump.

Then go inside and cap the end of your exhaust tubing and make several holes along the length of it, hide this part under your gravel. Put in the intake tubing at the top of your oil level.

Then turn on and you have a silent mineral oil PC with a huge radiator and fan outside, out of sight and not disturbing you. I think you could also use a car radiator but I imagine an AC one would look neater. I've never seen this done before but in theory it should work well. You could also fit the cooling rad at the bottom of your tank and use that to chill the oil but I'm sure you need to be good with AC units to fix on or buy a working one.

Obviously this entire plan is incumbent on him not getting caught"whistling:. Besides if you get caught being corrupt in this country you're doing it wrong.

I love what ur getting at though :D

Ok, so I would consider this if my processor was R30k, GPU R18k, having 64bg ram and running only SSD's. However cuz thats NOT the case and my setup as a whole cost me R3500 I would believe the above is a slight bit over kill for someone who ONLY plays sc :D. I love the enthusiasm and I really believe that there will be some guys that are more interested in this, but for me, um, water cooling looks like the option I'm leaning towards. I have a friend that built his own wicked one which I will post some pictures of when I am done updating all my responses to this thread. He has I think 16 little radiators running his pc cool, but he (as far as I know is one of the best FPS competitors in SA) Don't hold me to it cuz I am only stating what he says, but imo he is fucking insanely good after watching him play.

Ok so this is what I am talking about, this plays strait into my alley. What did it cost? Why don't u have it anymore? And who can help me do this? Really awesome mate GJ!

Whoah...how old is that? Why don't you do it again?

This was back in 2007. Old Intel E6400 @3.4Ghz at 22°C in the winter and 30°C in the summer.

Swiftech waterblock, res, radiator and pump. Unfortunately when I jumped to my i7 processor the block was not compatible with the chipset. Still have the pump and res tho so maybe at the end of the year i'll get myself a new block and res. But I really like the Swiftech stuff, and you can't get them here. I bought that setup when I was visiting my family in Canada.

I honestly can't remember how much everything cost me.... around R4k I think. But that was including 2m of Tygon pipes clamps, everything really. That picture was right after I had finished. The cable management....... Horrific!! :p

Anyways.......

What I really want is something like this:

or this!

I was actually referring to mineral oil cooling since the oil is thicker so you need a larger a pump and you have a high volume of fluid to move.
This is what they normally use
