Handling new MyGaming forum members

I generally treat NCs with the same respect I'd like to be treated.

A good welcome and assist in any troubles they may encounter on the forum.

I do get quite annoyed when veteran members tune a noob for commenting on a thread thats younger than a month, shouting thread necro and all that. Can't remember what it was but there was one poor guy who commented on a 4 day old thread only to be slagged off for it.

Perhaps we need to self-regulate as well. If we see this happening we need to call out this behavior.

I think you are referring to Lyt and Ike's posts? I don't think their responses are great, but as a community we need to agree on and the challenge bad behaviour.
Yeah.

What constitutes thread necro, what time frame of dormancy - for lack of a better word? 1 month? 2 months? 5 days?

Yeah.

Depending on the subject. Like some games get threads 1, 2 years before they are release so can you really call that necro when someone new say's something about the game.

I'd say a week or so, if you're just going to add to the discussion, but if you have some new information to add the topic, like if a game was being discussed and a new update or new information is coming out it, then I'd say anything up to 2 months is fine. That's my opinion about it anyway.

Seems perfectly reasonable what you suggest. Is it really a big issue if an old thread is resurrected in any event? No one is forcing you to read it!

A week?! Nah man, I'd say anything under a month is fair game. IMO

It is kind of, because then this happens: one guy who isn't paying attention replies to a year old thread, then a bunch of others who are also not paying attention think it's a new story / thread and start quoting old posts.
Hahaha, and I'm still interested in what they actually did.....dammit

Personally if I really want to say something about a game or topic, and there's an old thread that is relevant, I think it's ok to resurrect it if it's really something worth saying, although I do usually say sorry for the necro, but this is really the best place to say this....

Spot on, great advice! It acknowledges you clearly understand what you are doing.
