How many megs of data does it cost to play online?

These days data isn't such a big deal. I would be more worried about latency. But if I had to hazard a guess 50mb.
 
play for 6 minutes, check your data usage, multiply that by 10 and you'll have your answer :D

Do his method. It'll give you a good rough estimation as to how much data you're using for the hour.

And like it has been stated above: get uncapped internet. It's well worth it.
 
Depends on what your playing, a game like Dota 2 takes between 60mb-120mb per game depending on how long it lasts.
BF3 can consume quite a lot if your playing 64 player maps for a long time. I do have actual numbers written down somewhere, will try get it for you.

Yeah latency will be your biggest issue. How is that gaming ad-on btw? I don't trust the marketing. Now that I think about it there should be a list online with a whole lot of online multiplayer games and their bandwidth and data usage stats
