MyGaming suggestion box

Hi. There are no plans to have additional admins or mods. Everything runs smoothly as it is. If there is a problem, use the report post function and a mod or admin will take care of it.

Also, please refrain from having unrelated conversations in the suggestion thread.

Thanks.

I just read the 'Guide for new MyGaming members' thread, and noticed the following;

"Posts such as: "lol good jk +1 xD xD" will not be viewed as a constructive contribution to a discussion."

Does this mean we can report posts such as these? Because I've seen an unhealthy amount of similar posts on these boards since joining up. They really add nothing to a discussion and serve only as spam to up post counts. I would even go so far as to say they're downright detrimental to the board.

Would it also be possible to take steps to discourage this kind of posting behavior? I don't know if this board has been altered, but most VB boards allow you to hand out warnings and infractions. Let's say if a member is reported for such a post, he gets a warning and after three warnings he gets an infraction.

I don't know if James would enjoy or appreciate running around issuing infractions that much. Ok who am I kidding, I'm sure he loves issuing infractions. :p To me it is a bit on the extreme side. Since competitions state they want good posts that person should just be disqualified from the competition.

I don't know, I don't think it is. These posts end up driving people away, because nobody wants to work their way through spam every time they open a thread. It creates the impression that you're sharing the forum space with children. It might create extra work for James for a month or so, but after that people will start catching on and you'll start seeing less of these posts.

It doesn't help to make something against the forum rules if people are still given free reign to do so all over the forums. Disqualifying people from competitions is only going to make them stop during competition periods, and even then maybe not entirely.

Decreasing spam can only be a good thing for any forum.

If you saw it in TK it doesn't count

Do you have any obvious examples of what you have experienced in the forums so far that you regard as spam?

Malice makes a good point though, the TK thread is a free for all chat (from what i know) so that does not count, but i think there are more examples as per my Bold highlight above.

Apologies if this is considered idle chatter in this thread in advance, but as the front runner for the competition this i would like to make sure everyone is happy.

Yeah, I know TK is probably exempt from this. If it is run like the one over on MyBB, I believe it's exempt from most of the rules on the forum, aside from obvious things like personal attacks and harassment, of course.

I'm talking about posts in the rest of the forum. Very often people leave one-word responses to threads, or just post '+1', 'I agree', 'bwahahaha' or 'lol', and this doesn't really encourage much in the way of discussion. I think that if someone merely wants to agree, laugh or post any other response that doesn't actively contribute to the discussion, they should rather just use the forum rep button. That way you still show people you agree or that you find their post funny, but you don't spam the thread. As James' thread states, this is not Facebook, after all.

If you want examples, I'm not going to go scouring the forums for them, but there was a prime example where I called out a member on such a post this morning, in the 'I have lost my will to CoD' thread.

But anyway, I didn't think my post would attract so much attention. I just wanted to know if we could report one-word posts such as those. I'll wait to hear some feedback from the moderators. :)

Yes, reporting posts is pretty much the main way we'll be alerted to them. We can't read every single post that gets made. I think it will be good to crack down on shit-posting. 1 point infractions for each worthless post.

TK is obviously exempt from this.

Does it only affect activity points or does it change their level too?

Unable to view notifications using the MyGaming app downloaded from the Play Store. There a way around this?
