Traditional game pricing a “giant F-U” to gamers: Riccitiello

One of the reasons Mobile gaming is so huge is because having a mobile phone is almost essential in modern life and therefore almost every human has one.
A lot of mobile phone games actually have the worst pricing models I've experienced: micro transactions. I cannot stand them.

Also to be fair, mobile games aren't half as complex as PC/console games so day 1 issues are kind of expected these days.

This guy was a massive part of what he is knocking now anyways so screw him.

edit: no idea why Im so defensive. I think I just really do not like this guy and am extremely jealous of his salary.

No. Just no. I don't want a pricing model where I get the game and a knife in-game for free. Two levels in, you have to spend $1 to buy a sword. Next corner you have to buy armor. Then you can upgrade your armor for $0.50 or buy a gun for $2.
Just no.

With the advent of the mobile Smart Phone and much better mobile GPU's like the Tegra chip and A7's from Apple, games on mobile has improved with leaps and bounds. Games already look "console like" on current tech and mobile and tablet gaming will, within a few years, evolve to become a major player in the industry against PC's and consoles.

I am not a fan of Free-to-Play as they get you hooked on the game and then make you pay later on when it just gets interesting. I'd rather pay more and have the whole game instead of only a part. I can see how it is financially beneficial to developers and publishers but yeah, I don't like it at all.

I don't have a problem with Free-2-Play as long as its done right, example Planetside 2 & Path of exile(Pay2look not pay2win), but also have to admit it only works for MP games. SP games + Free2Play just do not work for me at all.

Riiiiight... so a model that is designed to be more profitable for publishers says F-U to customers?

Does not compute....

I would much rather have paid my upfront $10 or $20 or $30 or whatever and gotten a full version of PvZ2 with all the unlocks and a reasonable progression system.

Putting the evil that is is micro-transactions aside; the one issue I have always had with gamin is that games are priced more or less the same on release. I am sorry but that is total BS; one cannot justify charging the same amount for Bioshock : Infinite as one does for the new Star Trek game. The more appropriate pricing model I believe would be to only be allowed to charge R500-R700 if you spent a particular amount during the production itself.

Yeah, I agree that it works for some MP games. Games like e.g. Smurfvillage sucks up your mula like a black hole if you start buying berries and stuff. Developers like Zynga are "money grabbing ladies of the night " and develop games like these that in essence force you to pay money for in game goodies if you don't want to wait a week to progress to the next needed level. They are masters at hooking you and getting you into a game only to bring you to a brick wall that you have to buy your way over.

That type of game development I have with a passion.
