Games that defined a generation

I would argue that Xenoblade Chronicles alone was the best game ever to come the Wii... Hell, best JRPG ever!! Sadly it was not publisihed internationally so it was not well known outside of Japan.

I will settle with RE4 Wii edition and Metriod Trilogy or Madworld as games that Defined this generation on the Wii that is.

Zelda is there but for me, it was best on the N64 and Gamecube.

The PSX was the console to have in the late 90s. The PSX single-handedly changed an entire generation into console fanatics.
If you had one, you loved it.

I remember these titles that forever changed the way we looked at gaming:

Gran Turismo 1 and 2
Metal Gear Solid
Crash Bandicoot
Final Fantasy VII and VIII and IX
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
Tekken 3
Resident Evil/Biohazzard 1 and 2
Silent Hill

Hmmm but the PSX was basically just a glorified PS2 that included a digital video recorder. From the games you listed it sounds like you are talking about the first Playstation.

Are you a wizard?
That was basically my exact same list for the PSOne.

Everyone gets confused with the whole psx/psone thing.. :p
Just google'd it and apparently the psx was a ps2/dvr combo but also the codename for the psone..I guess that's where all the confusion comes from. Sony's fault for a crappy naming scheme..

:Edit:

What about GTA IV? Dark/Demon's souls? Dead space? Borderlands?

:Edit:

Nevermind, all of this is pretty subjective. We've all had different gaming experiences this gen..

The first Playstation was referred to by many gaming magazines at the time as the PSX. So it became second nature to just say PSX.

This isn't an easy one, Sonic definitely defined the 16 bit generation it was fast, new and had attitude kind of suited the early 90s. Final fantasy 7 defined the mid to late 90s and a perfect game for the PlayStation era, also resident evil was pants wetting.
Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast was awesome and a nice intro to the awesome sixth generation of consoles which was filled with tons of awesome games.
The seventh generation has just been awesome, to many games to list.

Half-Life 2 changed FPShooting (for me).

It became a foundation for what can be designed to be as good as or try to achieve better. It still stands the test of time, in my opinion.

Hmmm

What about Tekken? I can't even remember how much time I spent with Tekken 3, it was the perfect Beat-'em-Up. Having said that, Mortal Kombat on the Mega Drive should also be somewhere on some list.

Honourable mentions:

Spyro the Dragon
Need for Speed Underground (people went crazy for that game when it came out)
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

And then there was something of a personal addition to the list (probably doesn't define the generation, but had a massive impact on my playtime):

Jonah Lomu Rugby.

Silent Hill and the Resident Evil series defined the survival horror genre for me. I do exclude RE 5-6 from that list though as they have lost the plot completely and the games became action horror titles rather than survival horror games. I do look forward to The Evil Within as the original creator of the RE games is doing this game and he promises to bring the old school survival horror back. Fingers crossed. :)

Also on the honourable mention should be FIFA 06. No one can claim that this particular game didn't revolutionise the sporting genre as a whole. And all men can claim to at some point or another spent an afternoon with the homies with FIFA as the main attraction.

Defined a generation? Pong? Pacman? lol I guess those first few PC games I played. Jazz Jackrabbit, MechWarrior, Worms etc. Need For Speed and Quake.

The originals man

cod 4, 5 and black ops on the wii, how they managed to get the complete game running albeit with reduced visuals is a feat in itself.

FIFA, sure. But would it be specifically 06?
