Ramaphosa said that teachers were badly trained due to the legacy of apartheid.

That totally explains why the standards have been going down consistently since the ANC came into power 20 years ago.

I remember reading recently that one student who did teaching said she was not ready to teach yet.

They should really be benchmarking anyone released into society.. It's not a great leap of logic to see that the quality of work everywhere will improve. But obviously we need to prepare people for this benchmarking, so that it's fair, at least. Some years of preparation for everyone should do. Then some standerdized tests? Maybe for everyone in the country? Maybe give it a special name? I think something starting with an 'M' would do..

I agree with this: "Everybody else should be benchmarking themselves"

Let's start with a competency test for all the politicians!! :D

We as Financial advisers must keep up with current events and update our knowledge base on an ongoing bases. We are tested regularly by the industry and need to write exams on an annual bases in order to prove that we are on top of things so to say. It is personal and professional development and it ensures that we give sound advice and that clients can entrust their wealth to us without fear of us "messing up".

This should be the same with those that teaches the future leaders of SA. It will ensure that the children will be taught well and that those in the teaching profession stay students themselves.
