Logitech G430 Headset

Hi guys

Does anyone have the Logitech G430 headset? If so, please just tell me how it is for you.
I've been using my Corsair vengeance for the past 2 years or so, but they have a bunch of problems in Windows 8 and are completely useless in windows 8.1, since the software development team couldn't be bothered to make a driver for a major OS till after it came out.

Basically I want to replace my headphones but I don't want to spend a fortune. I had Logitech G35's in the past but the ear pads kept deteriorating. With the G430 it seems that they are using a fabric, so it shouldn't break apart as easily as the G35 earpads.

So if you do have the G430's please let my know how they are for you.

Are you only looking for the G430's or open to other headsets as well?

Sennheiser PC 360 all the way - but they're quite pricey. With headsets you get what you pay for, sadly.

No experience with that specific Logitech heqdset, but I'm something of a headphone enthusiast and have gone through quite a few.

You running USB or through sound card? If latter - Does it have a built in headphone amp?

Go for microfiber over synthetic leather cups. Lasts much longer.

Agreed, stay away from Corsair unless you're on a very tight budget.

Have you considered importing? Audio technica is excellent.

So are you looking for a gaming headset or others as well? (Surround sound or stereo?)

Primarily for gaming. Must have surround sound.

EDIT: Also the earpads need to be made from something that doesn't break easily. I had 3 pairs of G35's (repairs and replacements) and all 3 of them the same problem where the fake leather like material would start falling apart after a year or so. This was even when I was being very careful with the headphones and taking good care of them. Thats one of the reasons why the G430's look pretty good, seeing as the earpads material appear to be a lot stronger and are apparently washable.

:wtf: wayyyyy, too expensive. Max that I am willing to spend is R1500 and thats only if I have to. If whatever I decide on is cheaper, then that's a plus.

Do you want open or closed headphones? Do you lan or game competitively where there are people standing around or external noises you want to isolate?

Are you willing to buy headphones with a clipon mic instead or are you settled on a headset?

They must be over ear headphones. Can't stand on ear headphones. The mic needs to be included on the set, I don't want a clip on.
Noise cancellation would be nice, but not a must have. Should probably be a wired set, as the price goes up too much with wireless sets.

@Qrox, the audio quality of a headset is always inferior to that of a pair of headphones.

I'd rather buy a pair of headphones and slap on the Zalman ZM-MIC 1. If you go this route, you can choose between DJ headphones (bass boosts, amplified highs with a 'smile curve' eq) or studio headphones (neutral or flat response rate).

If you're happy to spend R1 500, maybe check out something from Sennheiser (HD 215s, HD 380-PRO) for your closed circumaural design or possibly AKG (K141) if you like the open/semi-open design.

I'm using studio headphones for gaming and, from my perspective, it has made me a more aware player. The neutral response of the cans makes it a lot easier to hear everything (explosions in Battlefield aren't overly loud) and I can hear footsteps no more matter what is going on around me.

Seeing as studio headphones are stereo, you can download Razer Surround which provides some of the best virtual 7.1 I've heard.

It's a far better alternative and that Zalman mic is extremely well built and effective for its price.

--edit--

Just saw you said you want a built-in mic

As stated by Wenzdayz, I've had 3 pairs of the G35's already. The sound was awesome, but the ear pads kept tearing apart after 11-14 months. That's why I thought I might go for the G430's as from what I can gather from reviews, they have better sound than the G35's and the earpads are a lot stronger.

Sorry I was going to link the G930s then I saw the price :p (This is what I thought they were: http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_3&products_id=2831)

Would you mind something like the Corsair Vengeance 2100 (Wireless) or do you not really care about the wireless aspect? http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_3&products_id=11167

Or your choice the G430s for hard-wired http://www.rebeltech.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_3&products_id=11171

The drivers in the G430s are 40mm and the Vengeance ones are 50mm.

Would you like true surround sound or is virtual good for you?

--EDIT--

Just saw your post about the wireless...but the 50mm drivers, eh :D?

These are relatively cheap (about R650), they are super comfortable :D and they have virtual 7.1 which is epic for sound whoring...
I have not looked back from buying these.
No issues as of yet :)

You know what's really funny about those?

This is the Genius Cavimanus:

And this is the Somik G909:

The Somiks cost ~R400 and are exactly the same. They have bass vibrations which is a cool feature but I'll stick to my mic and studio headphones.

Ok, lets start from the top. I was also looking at the G930s, but unfortunately just about every review that I've read complains about the MIC quality. Apparently there isn't enough bandwidth for the sound and MIC to work at their best so they scaled down the MIC quality so you can have better sound.

Second, I already have Vengeance 1500's. I want to replace them as the Corsair software team is pathetic. They couldn't be bothered to bring out working drivers regularly and don't even have drivers that work in Windows 8.1. So no Corsair products.

Third, I guess virtual is good enough, otherwise I'll have to go out and buy a sound card as well. Don't think the onboard sound on my motherboard would let me use true surround to their full potential.
