Can you perhaps give me a little more info on this...? I see there were a lot of old guides about two years back on how to get around it but is it still such an issue...? eg. an oldish guide I found on the matter:Works awesome! Just be careful as HiP 10bit is a bit buggy depending on the hardware you are using. Raspberry Pi cant play it at all yet due to its higher profile.
Also make sure you are not going to watch a DVD or BD as Mpeg2 is not a free codec and you have to buy it for it to work on XMBC.

Hmm thanks. How many anime is still encoded in 10 bit these days...? Normally I would jsut play anime on my PC and send it via hdmi to my tv so I've never really paid too much attention to it.If it's 10bit you are worried about. I am sad to say it is still an issue, the quickest and easiest way to get around it. Just use handbrake/MeGUI to encode it to normal 8bit, sadly 10bit requires a lot more power and the RPi falls short on that (my 1.2Ghz Dual Core LG phone cant play it either) sadly there is no other way around this.
Quality Wise 10bit just has better compression vs 8bit. Two videos that are encoded identical, the 8 Bit would be 500Mb where the 10 bit would be about 270/300. (this is all dependant on many other factors, Deblocking, Ref Frames, Audio, Motion Estimation and what not).

Not much surprisingly, despite it being around for many years. It will usually be labeled; HiP10, 10 bit, HiP. You will find that Blu Ray encodes are more 10 bit to save space, a really good encoder can get 1:1 visually at 1/5th of the size. It's amazing how much Data is used for RAW video.
Sadly I am unable to find a RAW screen cap straight from Television but, let's just say that if you are watching anime right now on a TV in Japan chances are it is 1080i and is upscaled from 480p, despite it being produced at higher resolutions. (I may be speaking under correction here, but when I used to use IRC I was on many of the fansub channels Taka, Dattebayo, SS, Leopard and they could confirm that it was mostly upscales to 1080i). I recall at one stage when Dattebayo was still around. They had stated that people should stop complaining, that Bleach looks "blurry" or "unclear" as they had posted a screencap of the TV Tokyo 7 RAW, and my word was it shocking, the interlacing was so bad you could see the banding.
...and here I am going on about TV broadcast video quality.
TL;DR
It will state 10bit, and not all of it is.
Ok
so I've managed to get some anime working with xbmc. Not properly set up yet but so far it's really nice!
I want that...
Yeah I won't lie it's very pretty
. Will upload some more pics tonight showing some of the different configurations.
So much anime Ohhhh yea.
Busy with One peace really liking it, just need to get the rest on ep 258
XBMC is one of the best media center apps I've used. So many configurations and themes to suit pretty much everyone. And pulling media info from various sources is simple![]()
How did you get your 10bit animes to play?
yea im on ep 290 now so close to half way now![]()
I think if they cut out the unnecessary stuff thats not in the manga and fillers it would be at about episode 400.Haha you have no idea. (I'm at Episode 600)
