Whose lines have already been upgraded by Telkom?

So my situation looks like this:

linespeed.jpg

I was on 2Mbps previously and I have now been upgraded to 4Mbps but the area has a max of about 1.8Mbps. What do I do now?

It's clearly a mistake on their system. What is your line syncing at?

The router says it's syncing at 1024Kbps, and speetest.net as follows:

Though normally my dl speeds were around 180kbps...

downgrade and save some $$$$$

 That is almost exactly what I was afraid of.

EDIT: Chatted with my ISP(Afrihost) they "upgraded" my line to 2Mbps so the dl speeds are 180kbps once more. Though I'm curious to see what happens when 2Mbps linespeeds fall away.

All that is important here is the sync speed of the router. If it syncs at 1024 and isn't artificially limited to 1024 it means that you are wasting any money on paying for anything more than 1024. Query if your line is limited to 1024, and if it isn't downgrade to 1024 or the cheapest package.

Everything is all good on my side. Sent TelkomZA a message on twitter, and an hour later I was upgraded to 2mbit/s. All the speed :D

My ping is a bit higher and every now and then I get a few random disconnects, but I'm sure these issues will be fixed once they finish with the upgrades

Problem, downgrading to 1024 is now impossible as 1MB was(is being) upgraded to 2MB, 2MB to 4MB etc.
Thus slowest possible speed is 2048?

My line is doing weird things, my router syncs at 5024KB with 640KB up. If I run a speedtest it tests at 7.3-8.7MB the whole time, but I'm getting sustained transfer rates on downloads of 800-1000mbps. Yet when I log onto the Telkom DSL checker site I am greeted with the following info.

Your current Product Speed - 10mbps
Maximum available in your area - 4mbps

LOL?

It just does not make sense at all :P. Also, my line has been dropping like a mofo. I've been contacting them every single day, I even dropped the line speed down to 1mb, (router syncs 1024kb) but still getting downloads start to finish of 300-400kbps, line still dropping up to 10 times a day. So I got a brand new router, phoned them again and was told the maximum in my area is 4mbs, so I bumped it back up 4mb. I Logged onto the router, it showed 5024kb again, with 1024kb up this time. Downloaded a 300mb Distro of linux, start to finish the lowest rate I got was 700kbps, max was over 1mbps.

Perhaps the speedtest file has been cached.

Please be more attentive to the difference between MB and Mb ;)

Is those Copper Thieves in your area!

My line was upgraded that week they said they would and its been running fine.

My line started syncing at 2mbps since middle December, must say the 2mbps is way better than the 1mbps was the jump is quite considerable.
Thinking of upping it to 4mbps now.

Still stuck on 4 megs even with the amount of Telkom vans I see coming and going from my UMC box they never seem to upgrade it at all :(.

My line was 2MB and on the ADSL checker it sayed 4MB but router still synced 2MB, so all i did was just calling Telkom and they bumped my line to 4MB, i did the same with my parents 1MB line and they bumped it to 2MB for them.

Syncs at 10mb, but exchange only showing max 4mb, same as Maplassie.
Waiting patiently for my exchange to be VDSL enabled, 10mb is getting slow and I wanna try 20/40mb :D
