International spies infiltrate online games, gather user data

and would you look at that? the world keeps turning, only worry if you are actually guilty.

Still thats not that point. I for one don't want to be spied on.

They can only get public info anyway (basically things you say in all chat)

PM's and such are still private. If they start poking around on gaming forums though...that's another story.

Look everyone is failing to see that if they spying on online gaming accounts who the hell knows what the hell else they spying on. Facebook,gtalk,skype,e-mails. Personally I don't think its right.

And I don't believe that they just looking at public info. Their excuse is national security which overrides freedom of privacy.

If you're using Gmail,Hotmail, etc then your privacy is already compromised.

if i were in organised crime(I am not), I would have used a game like WOW for communication and dealings it makes sense... It is probably happening for a while now anyway, is there spies? Off course, they are everywhere, they are probably reading this post right now...:wtf:

uhm, no...a really smart person would use some ridiculously high bit (4096-bit) asymmetric encryption algorithm and possibly encrypt the encrypted message before passing it on in plain and clear text over a public network of some sorts

I understand your point, but it's not a good idea with WoW. All chats are logged by Blizzard. Not apparent at first, but with certain reports, like harassment complaints, they can go back through the logs and see what happened. I'm not sure what other games will also do this.

If you want to keep electronic chats secret, you need a service that doesn't keep logs or where you are in control of the logs.
