Please point out where I say a crack is legal. Please do not put words into my mouth that I didn't say. There is a big difference between an image and a crack.

Speaking of making backups, one of the more awesome things I came across was that steam allowed you to put your UT3 key into steam

Now that it's in steam, I don't have to worry about CD keys, discs and other such things. If anything, my original disc is now my backup disc.

Steam is excellent for that, their backup gaming system also works well.

Bioware also allows you to store your cd keys online on their site. If you register an account there and register your game you don't have to worry about losing the cd keys.

As far as i know I think Battle.net also allows you to store your CD Keys online and ur allowed to download another copy of the game that you stored your keys for should your stuff get damaged

Necuno you sure you are quoting my post correctly or did you change some words. Look at my exact post it reads:

Using cracks is illegal though since it alters the code of the game. Using tools like daemon tools,any dvd,ect is legal since it doesn't alter the game it just makes a backup image.

All of this stuff is very technical basicly it comes down to whether you are doing falls under the fair use part of the copy rights act or not.

No unless I am going blind that says cracks are illegal but stuff like daemon tools,ect (imaging is legal).

Most places the account gets tied to an email so its to retrieve the account.

Bioware only does the cd key storage, no donwload of the games. But they are working on a new account system for dao so maybe they will incorporate that.

This is very simple.

1. No-CD cracks are illegal. They modify existing versions of the game's executable or you download a modified version of the game's executable. The process to achieve this is called reverse-engineering, a serious jail time offense.
2. You may have a game installed on ONE PC at a time unless the EULA or game manual explicitly states otherwise.
3. Having a mod-chip in your Xbox 360 / flashing your Xbox 360's CDROM is illegal. The most likely punishment is a ban from Xbox Live, but if MS feel particularly nasty they are within their rights to take you to court.

That said, 99.9999% cases of piracy / Xbox modding violations have nothing done about them. Its too expensive even for a stinking rich company like MS to hunt down and take every pirate to court. Its also incredibly difficult to track everyone down.

I vote to bring back the days of Warcraft2 and 'spawned copies'. I think we as buyers deserve some slack. Having to buy 3 copies of the game so you can play it with 2 other friends who aren't really interested in owning the game, one lazy Sunday afternoon, is asking a little too much. Just to enjoy a once of session with some mates, we have to own 3 copies? Bollocks to that I say. Bollocks to that.

Besides, back then spawning multiplayer copies was like free advertising. I remember a couple times I'd suggest we play WC2, they'd be like 'wuts dat', we'd spawn a couple multiplayer installs, have a few games and the very next weekend they'd have their own legit copies, proudly displayed. These days some guy brings a new game to a lan, wants to play it, cant get it to work on more than 1 pc and right there and then it's erased from everyones consciousness as they go back to DOTA or MW2.

A case of publishers killing the goose that laid the golden egg. Morons.
