A boat is smaller than a ship, a ship can hold a boat and still float. As edward says, a ship can carry a boat but a boat can't carry a ship. Therefore it's a ship holding smaller boats.

Well as a writer , just to point out the correctness
That czc , and Lycanthrope are actually correct it is a ship shipping ships .
Because the definition of a Ship is
A vessel of considerable size
and a boat
A relatively small vessel , usually a craft of a size that might be carried on a ship .

That doesn't change the fact that if a ship is being shipped it isn't one ,or that because its being transported it will now take on a new description of Boat the terminology(Ship /Boat) isn't only used when something is being transported , rather to describe something.

Hope that clears things up , and that's a wrap on today's useless facts.
