Apparently the tellers at ABSA bank don't like it when you ask how much they get paid per hour...
Gah I am looking for a text book

Title Taxation of individuals simplified
2014 edition

This is the best Tax guide for SA. There should be a hard copy at their office and a new one after the budget speech. I try to get my hands on one every year and take it with me to all my tax lectures. Also it's free

Get they required book but get this also. It a summary of everything and it has all the important rates and principles in it. It's a 50 page A5 little book, so while it's not a textbook I think it's one of the best additions to your collection IMO.
Ok kewl, thanks, I am hopeful that this is going to be the only tax subject that I will have to take.

Before I also download it, let me first ask: How accessible is it? Will it help a normal guy like myself with just a little above average accounting knowledge do my taxes or should I look elsewhere?
Some of the terminology is above the average taxpayers knowledge but the individuals stuff is easy enough to read. The index in the front is in alphabetical order so you should find the relevant staff easy enough, they also explain the new stuff quite well and show comparatives where possible. If you have zero tax knowledge it's not very good but if you know some tax then you should understand this book.
An example from Deductions for pension fund contributions, if this makes sense then you should be fine.
"Limited to 7.5% of remuneration from retirement-funding employment or R1750, whichever is the greater. Remuneration from retirement-funding employment refers to income which is taken into account to determine contributions to a pension or provident fund."
