MyGaming suggestion box

You mean update in real-time? I've never really seen that implemented on any forum. I don't know if it's even possible. I know some Xenforo forums will sometimes bring up a notification below the last post to say "There are x amount of new replies. View now?"

Yep, in real-time I've seen it implemented on carbonite...

Just a simple request but might stop a lot of unnecessary clutter and rubbish.

Announcement of a competition - Limit the amount of posts in the thread to 1 to share their love and admiration for Mygaming

Announcement of the winner/s - Limit to 1 again to say gratz

Just a suggestion, because damn that compo thread can get out of hand.

I know know, the comp thread is easily ignored once you've read the opening post, and it may be a good place to contain noob spam rather than letting it spill out more into the rest of the forum, plus, it's a good place for James to go hunting with his banhammer.

I doubt they would be able to limit the amount of posts in a thread. Also what Matt said.

I'm curious as to how a new comp rule would be received.

Users must have made 1 post in the 3 month period before the competition start date.

Not going to happen, it's not conducive to attracting new users.

Right, thats the first time I've seen a reason for not including links on mybroadband or mygaming.

You do realise that people think the staff are just being lazy?

People think a lot of stuff about the way we do things. Believe me, we see it all - the Disqus comments, the forum threads, the twitter snarks.

It's kind of irrelevant what people think when we do stuff for a calculated reason that prevents harm to our business. We won't waste time replying every time someone whines because it's fruitless. Also, it's really not that difficult to google something if you are interested.

How about the ability to remove posts in your own thread?

Not going to happen because such a thing is prone to abuse. There's a report post button and moderators for a reason.

Is it possible to make threads auto-update instead of pressing F5 every time? especially for TK users.
It's worth a try :/

Sounds nice but I don't think it will happen because it's not part of the core system of vBulletin. It also sounds like it will place additional load on the server. Consider how many pages will be open at any one time on the forum (it's very active) and now each page must continually call back to the server to check for page updates.

Sure i hear what you guys are saying, it makes sense.

Plus James seems to be busy busy today, plus the BH is still warm. Ill just keep it to myself lolz.

If it's not to your liking.... FIFO....

That's not necessarily a business friendly attitude.

As for the links thing ... yeah. It's user-friendly to have them. And despite what many would think, it adds to a site's authority/relevance if they post links to relevant resources. It certainly counter-balances the risk of possible broken links.

We link to sites and pages that probably won't break - linking to temporary pages create by retailers and the likes, those links will break and that's no good.

This is another amusing thing about people who complain - they find one article where we decided not to link to something, and suddenly: WHY DOES MYGAMING NEVER LINK TO ANYTHING EVER ERMAGERD!

I suggest one of the JHB folks take James out for a Beer before the oke goes Postal. "whistling:

Could we get a wider theme for the forum? That is purely optional, I prefer the entire site to file the page.

If I've missed this somehow, by all means proceed to show me the error in my awareness skills.

One theme to rule them all.

Yeah - linking to retail pages can be problematic because the links will definitely disappear at some point - but at the same time I've never seen it hurt a site.

Although it can cause some frustration for users - I wonder if there's a way to deactivate links based on whether it returns a 200/404 or some other invalid response. Hmmm. I should have a chat with our plugin devs over here, because finding broken links on older articles can be a massive pain.

I'm not really sure why broken links are such a problem, to be honest. By the time a link breaks, the article is more than likely irrelevant already and not that many people are going to be reading articles that are months or even years old. Even if someone in 2015 comes across an article from March 2014, he's not likely to complain because the link for Fruit Ninja on the PSN store is no longer working.

Links in articles are simply convenient. I'd rather have links that have the possibility to break a few months down the line than not have links at all and have to open additional tabs to google them manually.
