Winamp gets another chance

Terms of the deal were not officially disclosed, but TechCrunch, which first reported on the rumours of the acquisition, said that the deal is worth between $5- and $10-million, with AOL taking a 12% stake in Radionomy.

They were happy to can Winamp, but AOL still wants a financial stake in it? :wtf:

This is very good news! I love winamp and it'll amazing with all the added features. Let's hope they pull it off and create the perfect media app. :)

I'm really happy about this. I think that WinAmp will come out stronger than ever. That Llama's ass really will be thoroughly whipped.

AOL still exists?? O_o Haven't heard about them in a loooong time..

They only exist when there is someone they can screw out of money somewhere and when all is said and done they throw them to the cerb.

Winamp was a step child to them and now that someone else is willing to look after it and make something out of it again they want a claim and get profit. in my feel they should have given it to Radionomy, i mean they did kill it officially last year so why now show interest again

But i'm glad it's getting a second life it's the only player i use for my music :)

I actually think it needs a decent overhaul. Looked the same for the last decade.

Winamp has been one of those "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" type of software. It's been a stable, working platform for years and years, with a big following. That said, I do feel that if they are bringing Winamp back, a redesign will be required. They can keep the engine so-to-speak, but there's nothing wrong in making it more modern with more features and what-nots

All I used to use was Win Amp, It really was the best media player years ago...

I dont know what happened any why if fell so far from what it was, but iv been looking for a new media player, and win amp might just be it...

I don't know what you're talking about, I still use the classic skin. "whistling:

He says it best:

It feels so archaic though... with aesthetics from a bygone era.. :/

I feel that not only the aesthetics are dated by the intuitive navigation has become lacking. The fact that when quickly* adding music involves you scrolling down to load the info before you sort and save is bs. I'll even buy winamp if they'd just improve on those features and usability.

*When you drag and drop into the play
