EA and Maxis do impossible: Simcity Offline mode is coming

Thread Killer Mk VIII
First they said it was prohibitively difficult but finally simcity is getting an offline mode. I take it the simulation really doesn't need the power of the cloud. :p

SIMCITY OFFLINE IS COMING!

I’ve wanted to say those words for quite some time, so my apologies that I didn’t take the time to say Happy New Year first.

Yes, Offline is coming as a free download with Update 10 to all SimCity players. When we launch it, all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you anytime, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection. We are in the late phases of wrapping up its development and while we want to get it into your hands as soon as possible, our priority is to make sure that it’s as polished as possible before we release it. So, until then… testing, testing and more testing. As one of the final steps, we’re putting Offline into the hands of some of our most hardcore players, the DevTesters. This group of volunteers is going to put Offline through its paces before we release it.

Does this update interest you? Will you buy the game now or just go back to playing it?

I haven't played it for soooo long... I like online mode!

All I want is bigger cities.

Yes I agree with Pookie, bigger maps and maybe less bugs.

I really enjoy this game and looking forward to offline gameplay, how big do you think the update will be to go offline to play?

I might have a reason to look into getting this now. Forced online play is really ruining PC gaming for me.

Why is it ruining pc gaming?

Its in a way inconvenient yes, but someway and somehow I think its the future of gaming. But you will only like it when you live in a big city where you can get fast internet.

I am going to buy this game for my sister now so that we can play together:)

I'm currently renting a place and I can't bring myself to install a Telkom DSL line just yet (in case I want to move soon). And 3G data prices are just way too overpriced so I can't justify getting a dongle either. I have access to the internet (I have an awesome boss who lets me make use of his internet should I need to download DLC for my consoles etc) but online gaming is out of the question for me at the moment. So that is why it is ruining PC gaming for ME, because a lot of the games that release now require a constant internet connection.

Cool I like offline gaming meaning I can take my laptop on holiday and still play my favourite games without a 3g/adsl connection which I can't do with most games so have to use my 3ds instead on holiday :p.

I understand now, you make a good point. The updates are very big nowadays, but maybe it is the future or maybe not. For your part I hope its not.

Its still a fun game even if it is online.

I am 100% sure it IS the future, which is fine by me as I do plan on eventually getting internet and I believe the internet in SA will become better, cheaper and more stable as time goes on. I just hope it is a good 5+ years away :P
