Totally, but what did you expect when the comp says:

a) be popular
b) make a thread
c) post

This is why the the system works better that just says make a thread in section x. For example... Post an interesting thing you remember from the 60s, the best voted one will be the winner.

At least it is not in this state all the time as annoying as it is.

It would be interesting to have an activity comp open to new guys only. If the new guy makes a good impression then regulars will help him and if they are spamming then nothing. If the regulars have nothing to gain then we should see less distrust to the new guys (there is no regular being pushed out to a one week wonder).
