What are you reading right now?

I'm busy with A memory of light - Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, book 14 of the wheel of time series. I've been reading this series for years and have to keep waiting for the next book to be written, and this is the final one.

Brandon Sanderson has done a great job of carrying on the story since Robert Jordan passed away.
 
A Dance with Dragons - Book 5 of the Song of Ice and Fire series. Enjoying it a lot more than book 4 but as usual, as I get towards the end of the book things really start getting interesting.

Awesome book! I think I've read that one 3 times, many years ago though.

I think that was actually the first Feist book I read, someone lent it to me, but they didn't have a copy of Magician or Silverthorn sadly, so I read the final book of the trilogy first, but it got me hooked and I went out and bought Magician soon after.
 
After having rewatched 30 Rock for the 2nd time, I decided to read Tina Fey's autobiography "Bossy pants". Is actually quite a funny read if you enjoy her sense of humour.

It is indeed better than book 4. It was Feast for Crows that killed off my enthusiasm for the entire anthology as a whole; but the last 30% of Dance with Dragons kind of restored my faith in the series...if only slightly.


Currently I am reading The Blue Sword by Robert Mckinley. Very...strange book. I'm not entirely certain I enjoy it.
 
After I finished "They Thirst" (ok vampire novel), I started on "Artemis Fowel and The Time Paradox".
FML.
I've read all the previous Artemis Fowel books and this one kept the momentum of the previous books.

Downward momentum, that is.

The first book was very good and from there things went south at a solid clip. It got so bad that I couldn't be bothered to even finish this. If I wanted a boring sermon on nature conservation I would go visit Greenpeace or PETA's websites.
So I gave up on it. Then I watched Jack Reacher, enjoyed it and got myself a copy of "Killing Floor" by Lee Child, the first Jack Reacher novel. Very nice. I think I'll follow it up with a second helping.
 
It's been a while :eek:. Good to see that the thread is still alive and kicking :D

Books I've read this year:

- Crossroads of Twilight (Wheel of Time #10) by Robert Jordan
-This book has officially frustrated me to the point of giving up on the series, I AM DONE!

- Sons of Fortune by Jeffrey Archer
- Another amazing work of fiction from this author. The pacing of the book is just right :)

- I gave Eon: Dragoneye Reborn (Eon #1) by Alison Goodman a second chance (I didn't enjoy it in my 1st read, so much that I couldn't even finish it, but it's got dragons which warranted a second chance:o). I actually enjoyed the book once I realized and accepted its flaws. The 1st and 3rd parts of the book are great; the world building and the action, all of it well written and it keeps the reader engaged. It's 2nd part that bridges them that infuriated me to no end:mad:. The pace was terrible, the intended character focus failed, the political machinations were rather dull (wall paint drying type of dull), and it was just not enjoyable. But the second read at least made me appreciate the good parts of the book.

- I'm currently reading The Pirate Kings (Time Riders #7) by Alex Scarrow, it's a great book thus far (I've got a soft spot for time travel :p). This series has yet to disappoint me

I very rarely read pure fantasy. Traumatic experience as a kid with badly written sex scene between a dwarf and a wizard. I don't like to talk about it.

What I read depends on my mood.
I like action books (Lee Child, Clive Cussler, Ian Flemming etc).
I also like the more literary intellectual books (Joseph Heller, Kurt Vonnegut, John Irving etc).
Sometimes I even read Sci-Fi or horror (Richard Morgan, Richard Laymon, Stephen King etc).

And when I read fantasy, it's from writers like Jasper Fforde or Neil Gaiman.

For the most part, I read books from most genres within the fiction realm. Sci-fi, fantasy, political dramas, crime fiction, Espionage, etc. The only books I avoid are works of fiction where romance is the key focus.

Jeffrey Archer, Alex Scarrow, Robert Jordan, Robin Cook, Dean Koontz, Pittacus Lore, etc.

There were a couple of books in the series that were quite frustrating, I think that was one of them, but they do get better again. From book 12, Brandon Sanderson took over after Robert Jordan died, using Jordan's notes and plans for the story, and he's done a very good job of it. He did decide that the last book that Jordan planned was going to be way too long, so he split it up into another 3 books, all of which are out now, and I'm busy with the final book.

I actually know someone who re-starts the entire series every time a new book comes out.

I don't know man. I'm seriously frustrated at this point (book 10 felt like 800+ pages of going nowhere slowly, and book 9 already had me pulling out my hair,

), I'm not sure I'll maintain my sanity if I go through that all over again. Lol, I think czc did that (re-read the series) when book 14 came out. From what I've been hearing, Book 12 - 14 really bring back the glory of the series, but how good is Knife of Dreams (book 11)?

It's been a very long time since I read book 11, so I can't really remember what happened in which book, but I think it started picking up again around there.

That's another thing, too many characters apart from the core characters (to the point of losing some of the character development and focus on the core characters), too many side plots, I think the scope of the series and how it's handled is what gets to me at the moment.

*shrug*
I don't know, maybe it all makes sense at the end of the road.
 
Currently trying to get through The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. I really enjoyed the first 2 books but this one has yet to grab me. I can't imagine how they're going to stretch this out over 2 movies.

I felt my interest in the books steadily decreased with each one. The last was definitely the weakest.
