Your Personal GOTY for 2013?

Console - between Assassin's Creed Black Flag and Metal Gear Rising Revengeance
PC - meh not really much good games came out for pc that wasn't just a port of an existing console game. So since the only PC game I enjoyed that wasn't on a console would then have to be Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae.

Really Glad to see Tomb Raider seems to be one of the top games of the year. I've been struggling to convince friends to get it, because they are incredibly sceptical because the franchise had been damaged so much by years of crappy versions.

I think the reason why most people buy the game or why they don't buy the game is exactly the same. Its either because it is a female character( higly unliklely) or because they are too stupid to solve the puzzles or even complete the game.

Tomb Raider wins for me.

And there wasn't that hard (challenging) or that many puzzles in the latest one than previous entries

I agree it's great to see the gaming community embracing the Tomb Raider franchise again. I've also had to do some serious convincing to my friends that it's worth having a look at and not to judge it on the previous entries.

DOTA 2, Company of Heroes, Arma 3, DayZ SA? You seem to play mainstream console games but avoid them on PC.

Well the only crappy previous Tomb Raider was Angel of Darkness... Kurtis Trent.. urgh...

Before the last game there seemed to be a general distaste for the franchise from what I gathered online at sites such as IGN etc. I used to be kinda embarrassed to tell people I was a Tomb Raider fan. All the pretty pink unlockable outfits from Crystal Dynamics' previous trilogy didn't help.

I don't remember tomb raider ever having puzzles that were that hard. I don't know if you joking but I don't think its because of the puzzles people don't play tomb raider. I played 1 and 2, enjoyed them. Then played one after, but can't remember which, and found the controls clunky and the gameplay boring. The only ones I played since was the isometric one and the latest which I both enjoyed.

Not so, while I do enjoy mainstream games, I prefer the lesser known Jap developed games. Also, why get the game on PC if you have it on console already? but I'm contradicting myself as that's exactly what I do.

That's your mistake right there, basing a game on another person's opinion. Also IGN is the worst at rating games, they have been called out on that many times, also to illustrate my point I present you this

God Hand was a brilliant game, in my top ten all time faves actually. So what I'm saying is make your own opinions.

Lol thanks but I meant the comments from users not really the sites themselves. I never buy games based on review scores. I can usually tell from the trailers whether it's my scene or not.

Ah, but that's the other thing, us gamers all have our own opinions, and some of those gamers end up hating an entire franchise based on one bad experience. But not to come off as a TR spokesman or anything I still say play it and see for yourself.

I was basing my argument off your list of console games. Concerning owning the same game for multiple platforms, I do the exact same thing :p

This is what I believe is an accurate representation of what the gaming landscape looked like in 2013. [Obviously Xbox one is lacking :p]

Assassins Creed IV : Black Flag

PC - Indie
Brothers a Tale of Two Sons

Xbox 360 - AAA
GTA 5

PS4 - AAA
The Last Of Us

PS3 - Indie
Journey

PS4 - AAA

You seem to be an incorrigible fan of Tomb Raider :p. It's wonderful to see :D

Haha I'm a lot more than an incorrigible fan. My friends would be able to tell you how annoying I am leading up to the release of a new TR game (shoving every new piece of released media down their throats xD)

You a TR fan only or a Adventure genre fan? Have you tried Uncharted before?

I'm an adventure fan too and I love Uncharted (own all 3), but Tomb Raider was my first real 3D gaming experience all the way back in the 90's so the franchise has always held a special place in my heart and I'm glad Crystal Dynamics have been able to revive it (even if they did have to copy Uncharted somewhat to do so). I just hope the next game features bigger tombs, more complex navigation through the tombs and harder puzzles.

Haha! Thumbs up :) for the category titles.

Damn hard to choose one GOTY. So far, probably the best I've played are GTA V, Last of Us and Tomb Raider. Other games I'm still planning to play and I'm sure will be great are Bioshock Infinite and AC4: Black Flag
