8K (Yes, 8K) Broadcasts Just Took a Major Step Forward

I can't imagine how much clearer pictures can get. 4K is still way too expensive for most of the world and they're already onto 8K. Technology is moving so fast.

Holy hell i would like too see some of the images in that type of Dev but us in south africa will prolly only get it 2 years after the rest of the world has it

It never ends... Its retarded... I was thinking of getting a new TV this year, My HD samsung is now about 5 years old... so was thinking do i go OLED Smart or wait for a 4K tv? And now???

Yip. And if you take online bandwidth in SA then I cannot see any of this coming to us any time soon. I know they use another tech but think about 4K YouTube streaming and stuff like Netflix that will be going that rout. Some crazy stuff happening in tech now.

At 8k You could have monster tv's well over a 100 inches. I really need to win the lotto. imagine the monster pc you would need to push 8k gaming.

Properly adopted? most broadcasters don't even use 1080p.Doesn't dstv use 1080i?

Yeah, like you do not get any movies in 4K yet, from what I know. But I have came across samples of 4k video on the internet, 4k is barely available and now they "skip" to 8k. And later this year we will probably have 16k as well.

Not sure what DSTV broadcasts at, but on my 1080p tv it looks like 720p video on their HD channels

8k is not anything new... In screens and tv's it is new. But i know people who render things out in 8k so they can be blown up to massive sizes... Such as billboard adverts

8K! Holy cow but I can just imagine how clear that must be. I saw one of those really expensive 4K Samsung televisions and it was amazing. Though using DSTV you only get 720p so I don't really see the point at this stage.

first they hyped 3d which didnt pick up as expected and now they're throwing endless amounts of resolutions at the people.

I hate 3D with a passion! It's such a waste of time. Now holograms... that's something to watch.

Did you know that Sony, in an attempt to win the bid for the 2014 soccer world cup for Japan(I stand to be corrected on this date), promised to have life sized holograms broadcast to certain stadiums around the world. Imagine watching a live soccer match in a stadium but the players are holograms.

Like we really need to see the pores of actors and actresses in such vivid detail. But to be honest I won't mind, I will only rage if some media format other than Blu-Ray comes out and they start remastering movies I have already bought on Blu-Ray once again for 8K! So long as new movies come out in 8K and they still managed to squeeze it onto a single disc and keep it compatible with current players I will be happy. :)

well i just got my 40" samsung Full HD Led tv (the missus didn't want to go bigger , says my living room is too small) and i'm more than happy with it it's changed the way i watch sports and movies :D now i just want to plug my pc in on it and check BF4 in 3d :D

Optimal TV size works roughly like this: Taking viewing distance and divide by 2.5 to get the best screen size. So if your sofa is about 3m from the TV, you will need a screen with a diagonal of about 1.2m (or ~47inches). So for a 40inch TV, ideally you'll be sitting about 2.5m from the screen.
This is just a rough formula and your optimal distance may vary.

Well that is my range roughly and because i'm using glasses when only i watch TV but that's how i roughly worked it out too but it would have been nice to have a 46" just for the sake of having one :p
