I read in this thread of many PCs that "does the job", and thinking... " those PCs are more than adequate enough to handle basic or non-basic tasks - compared to some very basic PCs you'll buy @ a local retailer (with less than half of what those PCs have)(e.g Windows 7 with 2GBs of RAM). That's borderline functional. Can only assume you're just being very modest.

My sister's PC for example in running Win 7 64bit, and it's slow at times. Maybe it's certain processes - that I don't know yet.

There is Work/desktop PC, then there is game pc's and last time I check this is a gaming forum.

My PC for example is ok to run some games but latest games on ultra is gonna kill it, so yes it falls under "does the job"

Main PC:

CPU: Intel i5-2500k (Currently at stock speed)
CPU Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212
MB: Asus P8P67
Ram: Corsair XMS3 4x2GB 1333MHz
GPU: Asus GTX 680
Sound card: Asus Zonar D2X
Speakers: Logitech Z-5500
Headphones: Turtlebeach Earforce X12
PSU: Corsair CX600
Case: Coolermaster CM690 II
DVD-Rom: LG
HDDs Internal: 1xSeagate 1TB (Games), 1x250gig (Linux), 1xOCZ Vertex 3 128gig (Windows)
Monitor: LG Flatron IPS235
Mouse: Logitech G500
Keyboard: Logitech Illuminated

Last upgrade was the GPU and sound card which was about a year ago. It's the first time I've bought a high end GPU so it's throwing my upgrade cycle off a bit. It was an Asus GTX 560 and I normally look upgrading every 2 years but I got my Asus GTX 680 at a good deal. At the moment I'm considering maybe a mboard/cpu/ram upgrade as I can already start to see a lil' slow down when things are cranked to max in games like BF4 but am first going to try a lil' overclocking to see if that helps or not.

Budget PCs tend to have budget components. I know with my work machine the parts are extremely cheap and even though it's a Core i5 3470 the rest of the components really bring the system down. The Value RAM running at CL11 really hurts the speed of the machine as well as the bare-minimum chipset the board features. :(

Please remember - this is not a rant, more like a little envy from my side. For example - I want to get myself a bigger screen (23" LED HD) monitor. My 18.5" "does the job", and has been for the last few years (thanks to my brother for it), but, if I wait until the year's end, I may score something significantly bigger. Still saving up for a decent Mid-range GPU as well.
