Awesome thanks! Will go read now. And after that I'm going home. Cheers everyone.

Well I just finished reading it. I have no idea whether these guys are total homophobes or if something got lost in the translation, but I laughed my ass off.

She seems to be having real issues thinking creatively causing me to fight the temptation to shout:

"WE DID THE EXACT SAME FUCKING THING YESTERDAY, HOW CAN YOU NOT FUCKING KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING?!"

This is compounded by asking her to solve a simple issue and the looking over 5 - 10 minutes later and realize she is flopping about like a fish out of water when we've done it multiple times.

Dunno 'bout that. I've never had a manager that shared your view.

Sorry you've had such shit managers, no fun when people shout at you.

Most of them probably didn't have a pay rise riding on it. I've been told I need to be more positive as other people in the office look up to me, not just my trainee but other junior devs etc. I have a review in march and in June, if I manage to be more positive in the higher ups eyes then I get pay bump. So Im avoiding anything that can be seen as negative and making my new trainee cry like a little bitch coz she cant think for her self would definitely be considered negative (Unfortunatly).

Not a bad reason, but also in my experience, people tend to happier when you can manage them in a way which doesn't involve shouting. Happier people produce better work (there is research on this), and people who produce better work make you, as a manager, look good.

Which is not to say I haven't sometimes SHAT juniors out on various matters. But having to do that sucks, and has been largely counter-productive (except on the matter I shat them out on).

Yeah Shouting tends to make people close up and as a result not work as well. Another reason why I am trying desperately not to sound agitated when she asked me to help he and it becomes clear she has no clue.

awesome (as usual) workout done and dusted ..... feeling chuffed that I can punch the fuck outta the bag now. I pity anyone in front of that fist ever :D

I have my 5km run in the next two hours. My dad just started running with me but I feel bad that I leave him in my dust :p

Is this something she's asked for help on before? I kinda have a three-strikes rule about teaching people stuff. First time teaching them, no worries at all. Second time, also no worries, but change up the way I teach what they're trying to learn (maybe screwed it up third time). Third time is the last time I put a huge amount of effort into helping them, and again change up how I say what I say. After that, if I haven't managed to teach them I recommend to them that they either research on their own, or go ask someone else cause I'm obviously not getting through to them.

It can be bloody hard to have the patience to go through three teaching iterations with people though, especially for something you find simple and straightforward.

@Tsar - That's the only downside to this, I am going solo so it's harder to keep at it. But .... I have a good goal set in stone in my mind and come what may, I'm sticking to it. It would just be easier and quicker with a partner.

Totally agree with you. Doing it by yourself makes it harder. I do my upper body work outs by myself. Just with the running its nice to have someone motive you. My mom runs with me on the weekends. It also helps me keep a good pace. Also state of mind helps more than anything.

Pity you in durbs would of helped with the training.

Also, having someone with you when you do weights is pretty good too, both from a motivation perspective and because you have someone to spot you on the heavier weights. I found myself pushing harder when I was more comfortable I wasn't gonna drop the weights on my face :D

Personally I don't do weights what I am doing now has had more results than weight lifting :p

To be honest, I only had 3 and my relationship was very good with two of them, regardless the shouting. The problem with number three is that he is better qualified than I, but I am more up to date in IT. He got his degrees in the early 80's and never really moved on from that point. I kid you not, he really wants to fix every communications issue by FTPing a flat file. Anyway, enough ranting. Just a few more months and he'll be gone, but not forgotten.
