Consoles and games price hikes imminent

SA retailers expect hardware, console, and game prices to rise in response to the weak rand exchange rate and inflation.

Really glad I bought my PS4 early before the price increase. Although the expensive games is something I am not looking forward to.

Yeah PS+ is amazing. Haven't bought a game for the PS3 or Vita in ages. Also can't wait for Outlast on PS4 next although I am not too sure how far I will play it.

As shit as it is, it was inevitable... Iv decided no PS4 for me till iv finished my PS3 back log... Trying to give myself a good reason to finish up a whole bunch of titles :D

So im not to concerned... The rand will recover eventually...

Currently show it climbing to new heights, if you look at it in the last 2 years it has continued to climb.

Eventually, could be today tomorrow or 5 years from now, I think SA is waiting for another economic meltdown before they re-adjust their current currency buying trends.

If the rand continues to loose value against other major currencies the government will raise the interest rate again to counter it... From what iv read we can expect at least a 2 full basis point hike over the next 2 years... That will keep out currency relatively steady...

Also the only one to blame for the bad rand is the government corruption, strikes and other things so hopefully if they get ousted at the next elections the rand will stabilise again.

Come to think about it (Or looking at bank account) for some of us, this increase is a bonus.

Its like a automatic salary increase without the increase. :D

I don't think that they will lose the next election, of what i've heard it seems the DA has screwed themselves this week.

"However, as seen in the past, if the exchange rate were to improve dramatically we would again see an improvement in local gaming prices.,” said Borea.

Yeah what are the odds of that happening anytime soon i don't see it happening at all with our current Government

I see a bleak future for us and its running down the slippery slope along the lines of another Zimbabwe

Just waiting for FNB to bring the PS4 to their smart devices, won't be able to blow almost R7k just at once now after the increase. Sucks to be a south african citizen :(

Was also waiting for this option but luckily I got another opportunity to get a PS4 in a trade and went for it. Glad I did now with the price increases. Sucks about the games as well though, so will just be a lot more selective as to what I buy.

Nemesis can you see our favorite pastime "Collectors editions" getting even more scarce with this BS?
Wonder what i'm going to pay for Watchdogs Vigilante edition now :(

That's a bit melodramatic to compare us with Zimbabwe . Our current GDP is still sitting at above EVERY other country in the continent. Yes the rand has weakened and yes the Government is corrupt. However that doesn't change the fact that the actual overall state of things isn't approaching economic apocalypse. People have been claiming that the country "Going to the dogs because our Government is shite" for almost a decade now and yet here we still stand.

No i'm not saying we are there Snare but if you look at the trend that things keep on getting worse and declining we might assume we'll be there sooner than never. I work for mines in Rustenburg 5 shafts to be precise and luckily i work for the one company that doesn't have issues atm. But where the shit did happen They(Anglo) are threatening to pull out of the country completely the way the strikes are going and they are they are a huge source of income for our country and once things like that start happening i can only see a steeper downward spiral
