Top Gear

i am a HUGE Top Gear fanboi and have the entire collection from Season 1. Its fascinating to see the progression of the series from when they started without James May, and in a warehouse with a handful of people milling about, to the current big budget, packed studio setup. I think last season was superb, which makes episode one of Season 21 all the more disappointing.

not sure if any of you have watched it ? if not....SPOILERS BELOW

i found S21E01 to be childish and annoying towards the end. I love when they build stuff and it all goes horribly wrong, like with their "carboat" challenges. but all of those felt real and genuine. the rubbish in this past episode felt so painfully contrived that it was awkward :-( i really hope that the season improves dramatically, coz it surely cannot get more cringeworthy?

Love me some Top Gear, but the show been deteriorating more and more over the past couple of years

Ag I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as good as previous episodes and was lacking. Everything seemed unusually staged unfortunately.

I use to watch it for the banter between the 3. But when that even started sounding scripted I stopped watching. I do watch the odd special though.

I too love me some Top Gear - I have all the "Challenges" DVDs - haven't really bothered getting all the series because I only really care about the challenge bits.

that entire last bit in Wales with the cop-chase was just weak :-( i seriously hope that this isnt a sign of the things to come in the season ahead. its almost as if they are running out of ideas.

They won't run out of ideas. Next they'll be flying trains, floating on tanks and driving without tyres.

Thought the episode was quite meh... and I agree that the end bit in Wales was quite dumb, anyway Jeremy is driving the P1 in the next episode so will reserve judgement for a while

Yeah, also found episode 1 to be extremely dull. Normally I'm stuck to the couch and paying attention, but this time I was getting up and getting stuff to drink and eat without pausing the show.

Haha, thats when you know. When you sit back down and dont feel the need to rewind.

Well as this season progresses i think it will be good again the first ep of a new season is always a bit dull and i can't wait to see what the stig does with that P1 and Jeremy's face when he drives it

for me, it was worse than just dull. the whole Wales bit came across like a really weak and lame kids "comedy" show. JC and May, sitting in exploded cars holding steering wheels. I prefer my cartoon imagery in animated format, thanks.

the show's become too scripted, i think from season 17 onwards it started its downhill trend ! Enjoying top gear us, also scripted like the uk one but not as much afaik

Top gear has become to Hollywood preferred the earlier seasons it felt more genuine. Now it's all about the slow mo.

This is an ancient video, but brought more of a smile to my face than the entire S21E01 episode :

Agreed, although I equate dull with lame.
